Best Prospects by Position (that are not yet in the NHL)

Im looking for just ONE player at each position.....

My defense choice is Montour, goalie choice is Saros... still undecided on my forward choice though.

Who are yours???

Forward - ?
Defenseman - ?
Goalie - ?

Are you talking about best player overall or best prospect? Igor Sheshtyorkin (I probably butchered the heck out of his name) is killing it in the KHL right now.

Kind of matters for how I'd answer as well.

I wasn't paying attention when I clicked the link. We are in the prospects forum so yeah. Prospects would make sense.

I definitely think Sheshty is going to be a hell of a goalie and could be the best not in the NHL right now.

Sorry i guess i should have changed it to prospects maybe?? instead of having best player not in NHL.

I was trying to come up with a way to ask just cause nowadays we see more and more undrafted players from europe making their way to NHL at an older age... Ex panarin, zaitsev etc etc

Yeah, it's also hard to weigh readiness vs ceiling. For example - someone may be the best defenseman not on your NHL team, but not be your best defenseman prospect.

Flyers

Forward: Rubtsov but the argument could be made for Lindblom who is killing the SHL
Defense: Sanheim but argument could be made for Myers
Goalie: Stolarz

Are we talking individual teams or overall?

for the Canes it's:
Forward: Julien Gauthier (HM to Koukkanen)
Defense: Roland McKeown (Bean has the highest potential of the group though)
Goalie: Alex Nedeljkovic

not per team... all around best players you feel

sorry I wasn't specific enough... I just assumed people knew what I meant since I named Montour(defense) and Saros(goalie) as 2 of mine in the OP and obviously they aren't teammates

A lot of people are extremely high on Gusev(TBL) playing in Europe and some have said hes one of the best forwards not in the NHL

D - Chris Bigras
G - Spencer Martin

Lol. No one has answered the question

I'd say

Forward: Nikita Gusev
Defense: Brandon Montour
Goalie: Ilya Sorokin

I wouldn't call these guys the best prospects at their position (Sorokin maybe), but I would say they're the best outside the league.

If that's the case, man it's really hard to say. Especially at forward.

Could see a case for the following guys:

Forward: Scherbak, Vrana, Keller, Jost, Dubois, Meier, Kapanen
Defenseman: Theodore, Montour, Honka, Sanheim, Juolevi, Sergachev

Forwards: Kovalchuk (Even if he's lost a step, I'm pretty sure he could walk into any teams top 6 and be a quality player tomorrow night)
Defenseman: Shea Theodore (Edit: Forgot about Voynov, he'd be top 4 on almost any NHL team, even if he is a despicable human being)
Goalie: Sorokin

If were discounting old vets in other leagues. I'd probably go with Christian Dvorak at forward. He deserves to be in the NHL but isn't for what appear to be reasons out of his control.

Edit: Thought this was being applied league wide, as in your opinion since OP listed Saros and Montour who are prospects for different teams. For the Leafs it would be.

Forward: Kapanen
Defenceman: Nielsen (but him and Dermott could change by the day).
Goalie: Sparks is probably the one who could immediately come in, while Joseph Woll is by far our best goalie prospect long term. He is tracking similarly to Thatcher Demko and Cory Schneider in comparison to former BC goalies.

He isn't a prospect, but one would think Slava Voynov is easily the best d-man not in the NHL.

Lot of people have confidence in Demko for such a lackluster start to his pro career. I take Shestyorkin over him in a heartbeat
