zuccarello has skill but has shown an inability to command any presence with the puck along the boards. for an NHL winger, that's a career death sentence. he's got to get stronger before he has a shot to regularly contribute at this level.
He is better than both. Calling him "soft" is bs. If you have seen him play you know he goes after anyone, size dosnt matter.
He wont get a chance though, he will be traded. Good for whoever gets him.
Wrong. He may have more skill, but he couldn't serve the roles those two serve.
Also size does matter. People point to St. Louis as evidence. How many other sub 5'10" guys, or any NHLer for that matter, have Marty's skill? If you're that small and aren't DAMN good, it's a huge negative.
Definitely has a lot of skill, but no room for him here. Especially if this team intends to give christian thomas shot...not room for 2 little guys, I think zuccs will be shipped at the deadline. I wish him the best though, I always liked him.
I am not saying he is better than anyone, so save your laughs.
What I said is that I believe there are a few people out there that are a little disapointed by Richards.
99 never scored on a shootout? find that hard to believe, didnt he score 72 total?
My mistake. It must have been Babe Ruth that never scored in a shootout.

To clearify, I didnt say Mats' size didnt matter, I said he would go after anyone regardless of their size.
I don't understand how you think he's a better player than feds, yet shouldn't replace him in the lineup.
Seems like a complete contradiction to me.
Thats not hard to understand at all. He could very well be a better player than feds, but feds can very well be more suited for this team style of play,no?
Tortorella and Sullivan's "system" doesn't prohibit any kind of player from playing their game. Their "system" isn't all that complicated. At times the neutral zone will lock a wing, other times it will conservatively man up, other times it will aggressively pressure the puck. 1-2-2 or 2-1-2 is not a system either. All it is is the level of pressure you actively put on the opponent either before acquiring the puck or while theyre breaking out.
“I have a lot to prove, and I have a lot of game left after not being allowed to play my game for the last four years,” Avery told The Post before returning to New York from Florida, where he was given notice of the move Friday morning.
What do you honestly think Torts would say to that statement?
I think he would definetly say the system is the identity of the team. He has been preaching that all last year and this year.
If he wasn't just giving rhetoric (aka preaching), he would say that his system works much better with a team with a certain identity vs a different identity.
Of course not, and that has been my point.
It is all about being the right player in the right system on the right team. As for Richards, NYR could have had the same skill for far less money the last 5 or so games with MZA..

I was with you on most of the stuff you were saying abd laughing at the ignorance of pretty much every response you got but this is a really stupid implication here. Richards is our 2nd line center and you just insinuated Zuke should play that role?
The underlying issue, is Zuccarello CAN'T PLAY IN THE NHL. The NHL is NOT the AHL. MANY AHL stars couldn't and can't hack it in the NHL. And this argument over a fringe player, just like the Avery nonsense...is...nonsense.
This is what hellion was initially argueing against and with good cause it's just dumb. There are a helluva lot more teams in this league than the rangers including teams that find room for PA Parenteau. Zuke can play in the NHl on a team's top 6. ANyone who says he absolutely can't is being ignorant. If he was willing to spend another year in our system and avoided injury i'd say he'd prob be ready for a 2nd or 3rd line role because we have the players trhoughout the lineup to compliment him. he certainly cant work on our 4th line in place of Avery or Feds despite being a more skilled player. As it stands now he can go to a team with holes and fill in a top 6 spot, PP spot and of course shootout role haha.

this is really all there is to know with the Avery situation. "HIS GAME"!
it's always all about him. he's a nonconformist on/off the ice and that's usually not a good thing in team sports.
There was a time when "his game" was tolerated under a passive coach with nothing to lose with Tom Renney. Now, not so much.
time to move on now for ranger fans. if some want to harbor resentments towards the coach.. oh well....
He doesn't fit the identity of this team tho. I like him, he has skill, but he's not "tough" to play against. Every player on this roster is that, and in spades.
I wish him the best of luck and whatever team gets him will have a guys who'll make highlight reel passes from time to time, certainly shootout moves. But the NYR need grit and skill, not undersized skill.
Hagelin and Mitchell have already passed him. Avery is the "first call-up" now it seems and is spending a lot of time on I-95 now. Next year, he will be fighting the likes of Kreider for a spot.
he played half a season.... itd be pretty obvious hed be up there in both those categories.
I do not think playing less games automatically makes your per minute scoring go up or your per game scoring go up. Scoring in your time on the ice and in the games you play make them go up. If he didn't produce when he played those stats would not be high.

im not saying those numbers are false but playing 42 games rather than 82 like everyone else on that list gives him an advantage.
Zuccs is going to need to work on his lower body if he ever wants to be successful at this level. His legs should be the size of tree-trunks at his size if he wants to make it in the NHL.

What advantage? He could have had better numbers with more games and more experience. Guys first 42 games in the NHL are rarely their best games of their career.
