All you guys looking to trade up, I'd consider trading down from 425. PM me with offers.

Conditional trade to announce:

To Hamilton Mustangs: 425, 482
To New Jersey Swamp Devils: 441, 444

vecens to confirm.

This trade is conditional on both sides - either side can call it off at 425 depending on who is available.

I'm going to have to turn down this trade. I wanted a certain player X and Jiri Holik with the two picks in the 440s. Jiri Holik ended up going higher than he ever has (and it was deserved IMO). I'm going to have to keep 425 because even though the player I want is likely to fall to the 440s, I don't want to chance it.

Care to expound on why?

I don't think it can be vetoed. The above trade works out to 25 for 71 (-46) and 179 for 298 (+119). Kimberley orchestrated a similar trade earlier- 23 and 170 for 59 and 70. Same ratio- -36 for +100. We're talking a bit later, sure, but the ratio is still one that has a huge impact on EB's club; he moves from having Pitre as his top-line winger to Bauer, an okay 2nd liner and moreso elite 3rd line winger.

I'll be honest, in terms of the pick numbers being given up, it looks reasonable:

25 & 296

for

73 & 179

I know that if I was going to drop down 48 spots that early I would want at least 117 picks back.

or are you saying he should want even more than that? I can see it.

At this point, we are not reviewing pick numbers, but players, and the difference in player value is unbalancing, and quite clearly so.

If you're going to trade a top-10 defenseman for a guy who's a borderline #1, you're going to have to get a similar return up front.

Veto.

I'm not on the trade committee, but IMO those two trades are not comparable. The second part of that ratio is coming over 100 picks later this time AND there is a bigger jump in the first part.

Orginal trade: Mid 1st and Mid 6th for Late 2nd and Early 3rd
This trade: Mid 1st and Mid 10th for Early 3rd and Mid 6th

If you think these are equal it means you think that a jump from a 6th to 10th round pick is equal to a jump from a 2nd to 6th round pick. I don't know how you could justify that at all.

Not to break up our weekly "hey let's everyone **** on Bugg" commercial, but I wouldn't be opposed to trading down from 444.
