There's more to rebuilding than just drafting first overall every year. I dont think its asking too much to see something done to address team needs along the way. Carrying depleting assets until they are worthless isnt going to get us anywhere either.
It's hard to take anyone in the media reporting on/involved with the Oilers full-time seriously anymore. Especially when Dan Tencer has something to say; it's probably fresh off the presses at Oilers PR.
I miss the good ol' days of Rod Phillips tearing them a new one whilst watching a beat down. How he ever kept from swearing accidentally on-air, I don't know.
Yep.
Rod was untouchable. One guy the team couldn't reach or intimidate. The "Voice of the Oilers" As long as he was around you could hear some critical comments. Only problem being time delay of radio broadcast its harder to sync with the telecast. I'd never miss hearing anything from Quinn, Principe, and Debrusk. What bootlickers.
Yakupov is scoring at close to a goal per game pace. You don't pass up on him just because you have Eberle.
trade down then and take a d. we have loads of talent on the wings. Saw yakupov play twice this week and hes great, but he turns over a tonne of pucks and wouldnt you agree its time to load up on the back end? marincin is a long ways away and tuebert and petry are not looking like top 4 guys to me. Klefbom maybe but hes still 2 yrs away as well
From an outsiders point of view. The oilers look like they are in a rut. They certainly looked a lot better earlier in the year. I think their defense is the Oilers biggest problem ( other than Eager today). Stay the course and the team will respond. They are a better team than they played like today. Although RNH looks a bit tired right now.

im shocked, a teenager playing over 20 a night. it appears you have more hockey intellect than our esteemed head coach

When has trading out of the top 2 ever paid off? You don't pass up on Yakupov if you can get him. He's too big of a talent. If anything, he would make some other winger expendable and that's how you get help on D. I think he's a little overrated(comparisons to Bure/tiny Ovechkin) but he has the upside to be the best player on a team that has Hall, RNH and Eberle on it.

The defense falls clearly on Tambo. Most GM's in the league when their D is full of injuries make a trade to address the issue but Tambo sits on his hands like his mentor Dave Nonis. The guy has to go ge hasn't done **** in his 3 years here and that's enough for me.
The Oilers are losing and it will continue when Barker returns.
Oh, obviously. We're more than one Cam Barker away from being a winning team. I'm just saying that our defense is costing us games and he was a calming influence back there. Rarely was he caught running around.
So because people wanted a rebuild based on their own beliefs in what is best for the team long term they are sheep? Sorry but you are in no position to call others sheep just because things aren't going the way that you want them to.
I guess you'd rather be where Calgary is today than where we are. Tell me what magical moves you would've made with the **** that Tambo was handed when he was named GM?
Exactly! People forget the cap hell this team was close to being in, coupled with an absolute lack of talent and am empty cupboard. I do believe Tambo should be fired, but the architect of this disaster needs to go as well. Quite frankly, I do believe every move or non move made by this franchise, still needs to go through KLowe.
As Brian Burke indicated, he was struggling to keep his job, and needed to either replace himself with a puppet or risk being fired.

Wasn't barker only on for like 2 goals against this year? one that deflected off his stick and the other where he broke his ankle and marchand skated past him
Either way, hes either a good defender or the luckiest man in the NHL, either of which would help us

The worst thing about not having competent d-men replacements, is that our kids that would benefit with more AHL experience are being forced into roles here that are above their skill level, and they are failing at it. Petry, Teubert and even Peckham would benefit immensely if they could just spend quality time in the AHL without getting brought up here every so weeks. The guys that should be getting called up are experienced AHL dmen, which we don't seem to do.

It may, but I don't think it's a coincidence that when Barker went down our team went to crap. Barker brought an element to the team that we currently don't have the stretch pass, and a vet presence as weird as that is to say. As soon as we started relying on Petry, Teubert and Peckham every game we started losing.
I see I made the right move by flushing the game after the first Islanders goal.
Of course, it hardly takes the brain of Einstein to figure out that there's probably about 30 total minutes of Oilers hockey worth watching the rest of the season. DVR ftw.
Who's pumped up about the draft? Playoffs next year, right?
