Chip just tweeted that Rutherford said Paul Maurice has been fired.

Well, I'll be the first to say that I'm shocked....first that Mo is canned, and second that the Canes went outside of the family and did not promote one of their "boys" to take over.

I was wrong on both accounts.

Ready to buy tickets now!

Actually he's a good bit outside the system. He was (for a while) the assistant coach of the Habs, but started this season as the HC for the Milwaukee Admirals.

The ONLY possible negative is inexperience.

Is there a little bit of irony with Daniels beating Muller twice over the weekend and then Kirk gets the Carolina job?

Yea my bad, the way I read the story from TSN I thought Mueller was currently the assistant coach of Carolina..

We really did. There have been so many frustrating things going on with this team and I don't expect it to turn around immediately, I think we can see some serious changes.

I'm curious if Daniels wanted to remain in CLT?

As a mod I don't think I'm supposed to do this, but screw it.

First of all, Paul Maurice is a good man and a likeable individual, and the memories of that 2009 run to the Conference Finals are something I will cherish for a long time even though they came up short.

Now that I've said that.

A little background from June of this year:

http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2011/0...-muller-coach/

Curious to know what type of system he runs. He's credited with building Montreal's PK and is, of course, part of that defense first system that is Nashville. Still, my understanding of the Admirals is that it is a pretty free-wheeling offense. Does anybody have anything to add or correct?

I tweeted something similar to Branecky. Have to think Daniels was never really seriously considered.

Like I said, Muller isn't my first choice but change is good.

Sorry Mo, you were a hell of a nice guy, but a pretty mediocre coach. Somewhat surprising he was outright fired instead of moved upstairs.

As an outsider (Leaf fan), I think grabbing Muller is an absolutely great move for the Hurricanes. This is a very good step in the right direction for the franchise.

His team has scored like 3 FEWEST goals in the AHL, but have allowed the FEWEST (tied) as well. So, maybe a coach of a defense-first team, with little offense backed up by strong goaltending.

Hmmm. Second verse same as the first?

It'd be nice if Muller could bring Poile with him. Though the new coach effect will probably be in effect, the roster still needs work. Given where Muller has coached, for whom, and their systems, I'd look for a grinding, trap-style system.

I definitely agree, I do really like Mo as a guy but I just don't think he was right for the team to have a good future

Paul Maurice is a classy individual and a good man. I really hoped that he could turn the team around.

That said, this had to happen. He wasn't getting the best out of his players and wasn't giving fans any reason to believe that would change.

As for Muller I'd like to know a bit more about him. Seems odd that JR didn't go with Daniels.

There's nothing wrong with it IMO. He's a decent coach IMO and a good coach for a veteran team, but is horrible when it comes to player development. I honestly think the last straw was when Mo demoted Boychuk to the 4th line after two relatively productive and effective games in our top 6. Maurice just has no idea how to handle prospects. Let's not forget that he had Skinner starting the year on the 3rd line and he didn't get his shot at the top 6 until we had an injury to someone (I forget who, Jokinen maybe?).

And now, more Dancing Jussi:
