Parise has 5 shots at the end of the second intermission. Doesn't look like there's been much flow to the game so far, as Albany's had 6 power plays (including a 5 minute major) and Philadelphia has had 5. Clemmensen (20 shots, 19 saves) and Niittymaki (23 shots, 22 saves) both seem to be playing well.

if the scoreboard is correct (it's still updating) they just won 3-2 after a shootout.

w00t.

suglobov gets the shootout winner.
ahonen stops all 5 ps.
i honestly had no faith that he'd be any good at it.

i have no idea if anyone got injured, the game wasn't webcast.

I think Jeff Carter and Mike Richards have something to say about that.

The Rats beat the great Antero Niittymaki? I believe he is the second coming of Bernie Parent by the way Flyers fans speak of Niittymaki.

Albany scores two goals, then wins in a shootout, and now Nitty sucks? In a preseason game?!?? I'm going to assume this is just friendly fan banter, and not you guys being serious.

Who said he sucked? We said that the Rats beat the player you guys were all hyped up about - the Rats.

And, for the record, I think Niittymaki would end up starting over Esche before a full season was out.

Well, I for one feel the Rats are improved from last year, and hell, it is preseason, there were plenty of scratches on both teams, and the Phantoms were pretty undisciplined it seems. But I know what your talking about.

While we're at it, good to see Smith give that puke Parise a shot (sorry, just warming up for when he's on the Devils).

He cross-checked Parise right in the mouth. No real damage done.

We have high hopes for him, no doubt about that, but he wasn't hyped ridiculously. The majority of us wanted him to stay up with the big club for another week or two while Esche recovered, mainly so we didn't have to make a trade for another goaltender. EVERY fanbase will have it's idiots, so their comments shouldn't be taken seriously, but I don't remember anyone going as far as David Puddy put it. Maybe a few idiots like Capn89, who wanted him to start in the playoffs, but that was it.

I also remember some Devils fans thinking Parise would be their second line center for the playoffs right after he signed his contract, before even playing an NHL game. Every fanbase will get over-excited about it's prospects, neither of us are an exception.

They might as well all be exhibition games to me, seeing how I don't really care whether they win a championship or not. I just want to see the good players do well.

Unfortunately, many of us felt as though it was a lack of options that may put Parise in that situation. Not him actually earning it. The same thinking could be applied whenever the next season starts.

I totally agree that Parise could have made the Devils out of training camp this year and be put on the second line, then adjust where he plays from how he plays there.

I was talking about when the college season had been over for a few days and some people thought he was going to jump into the NHL playoffs playing on the second line. There's obviously a big difference in being put on the second line at the beginning of the season and the beginning of the playoffs with absolutely no NHL experience.

Niittymaki is good, really good. When he played against us last year, he was just sick.
