I believe down the road G will wear the "C", but next captain is Kimmo, it should have been Kimmo instead of Richie, I think Richie would have benefitted more as a player here if he had not been named captain so early in his career, it could go Kimmo, Briere, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if Talbot's name was brought up, but G will wear the "C" eventually, resigning him first is way more important
Tend to agree, he will be captian but I'm not in a hurry to give it to him, Kimmo and Danny B first, let Giroux just keep on doing what he's doing for now no need to give him any more to think about yet...
To be honest, I don't really want Danny to be captain. Whatever his playoff record, his lack of interest in playing defense and, ahem, inconsistency, in the regular season, should keep him right where he is.
Agreed. I don't think Pronger keeps it after this year because of the state of his health and it probably goes to Timonen or Briere for a year (or a couple in Briere's case)
He should absolutely get the C next. Not only is he far and away the best player on the team and the unquestioned face of the franchise, he's one of the best players in the entire league. He always plays hard as hell and is money when the stakes are high. It would be a travesty if he's not the captain.

Not everyone handles it well. If it's going to hurt his game than you don't give it to him no matter how popular or good he is.
I think he will be come to think of it. Any other guy who would be captain will be on their way out within the next few years.
My worry is just how he would come across to the media. He doesn't seem to say much, doesn't seem to be one to hold court. That's going to drive the media crazy, and that in turn drives everyone else crazy.

Seriously, guy? Jesus. How many times have you watched Giroux play? He's got one hell of a mean streak and is all heart... that screams "Flyers" to me.
He's another one that isn't comfortable with the media. Leave him with the A. As for the comment about Briere not deserving it, I agree. Just because he is ok with the media doesn't mean he's earned it. He looks like he doesn't care any more.

serioulsy. why should he be captain? just because he can score the most points? that's a stupid reason to make someone captain. a captain should be a great motivator and Giroux is a horrible speaker. he looks so uncomfortable in every interview he does. apparantly he's pretty quiet too, like Richards was. is this what people want? another young and quiet captain? a captain should not only be great with the media, but overall be a great speaker.. like Pronger, Briere and Timonen. there's also the veteran thing too. no player under 25 should be given the C. too much pressure. let G just focus on scoring and not have to worry about all the other crap that comes with being a captain.
you'd think after Lindros and Richards Flyers fans would learn not to hand the team over to a young guy. when will some people learn? no player under 30 should ever be captain in Philly, no matter how good they are.
