Volchenkov has actually been pretty solid in the past week or so but if it means Taormina will play, it's not all that bad.

I agree. Tao has gained my confidence(just a little) that he can at least do the job as a Defenseman. I'm happy for him.

Volch has been top-notch for the past 2-3 weeks.

I agree with this fully. He has been blocking shots, playing very well defensively. Hell he's even jumping up and contributing offensively. Who needs PMDs?

He's been playing solid hockey since his call up IMO, no complaints from me. Heck, I'd rather have him on the ice then Tallinder and a couple of other guys (at times).

Fayne and Henrique. Only Lou U can generate players like that from what was given at first place. Those 2 kids could impress us even more tonight.

His game is all about moving the puck up the ice and generating some offense, wich he does very well.

It's funny that we "knock" a guy like Taormina for what he's not known to be, a defensive force, but the same can't be said for someone with limited or negative offensive skills and a stellar defensive play.

Oh well.

That's because they're defensemen, and their vital role is in their title.

We're also Devils fans, and we knock any player for poor defensive play.

Larsson - Tallinder
Fayne - Foster
Salvador - Taormina

I'd roll with that tonight.

I do like it when we come up with late round gems like that. Makes our scouts look smart and credits our development system.

Exactly. I don't understand the willingness to overlook poor defensive play, when that's what this organisation was built on: the fact that everyone could and did play defence well.

We are supposed to troll the league as interchangeable parts, even our forwards are supposed to know how to jump back and play 'D' when a defensman is caught deep.

Some of them do, but not all of them. I would trust Zubrus or Zajac as a defenceman. Kovalchuk and Tedenby, not so much.

Don't fall behind like last time! Let's go 3 straight games without giving up a SHG in a LONG time!

We scored 2 SHG's ourselves against Ottawa last time right? We also gave one up to them I remember.

Only one shorthanded chance against us last game by the Penguins. We actually had like what appeared to be 5 shorthanded chances against Pittsburgh Saturday.

Not sure. Last week I had to watch a stream of the Carolina game with the Devils. I wasn't home, and I was staying with family in LBI who don't get Devils games, but Philly market teams instead. Actually better to be home in Florida with my Center Ice package! I don't even remember what site I found the stream then. Someone linked me to it.

Also penalty kill lets tighten it up again. Either that or keep them out of the zone completely at full strength. I don't think we've given up a 5 on 4 PP goal 2 games in a row in a while. Those were the only goals given up the last 2 games.

We're still chugging along at 92% on the kill, but I'd like to see that go back up.

No one is saying otherwise, but to expect him to step in and play like a stud defensively when he didn't even make the team from day #1 is asking alot out of someone like Taormina.

I'll take what he can actually give me instead of telling him to play a game he isn't comfortable with (playing a more passive game) and killing the one thing he "excels" in (moving the play forward).

It's one thing to demand that from a proven veteran but from a injury call up, I just set my hopes real low. If Taormina would actually do all of that, he'd be in our top 4, not in Albany

I'd be ecstatic if they could maintain 92%. I don't think the PP will get any better but I could see the PP getting worse.
