Great attendance so far this year

Gotta say I'm impressed with the Ottawa crowds this season. we're regularly hitting over 19K and have been close to a sellout or sold out most nights!

Funny how at this time last year the media was talking about the attendance slump, but I have not seen one article this year talking about how good the fans have been for this hard working bunch of young players!!

Good job Sens fans.

The team was no fun to watch last year. Complete different story this year.

Because the generation who were born Sens fans are finally getting old enough to buy seasons tickets and what not. Its only a matter of time until our arena is as live and active as Toronto or Montreal. My generation is coming.

It won't be a win until we are chanting "LEAFS SUCK" at the ACC.

Good to see.

Conversely the TV numbers have fallen slightly, maybe the games on Sportsnet One are dragging down the average?

Quote:
Over at Sportsnet’s regional channels, the numbers are similar. The Toronto Maple Leafs (who started hotter than Ashton Kutcher’s e-mail) are at 109 per cent of last year’s similar ratings through the weekend. The Ottawa Senators (who started abysmally) are at 91 per cent of their number this time last year. Edmonton, another fast starter, sits at 119 per cent over last year’s rating, inconsistent Calgary sits at 86 per cent (but up in November) and Vancouver, with Stanley Cup Final hangover, is tracking at 98 per cent.

These only account for some of the games, albeit ones that fall into the 'bronze' game category (I think the only jersey promo game we've played so far was Ottawa-Colorado). On the whole our attendance is good even in games without the jersey promotion. Surprisingly our lowest attendance game was against the Winnipeg Jets.

Opponent Attendance
Carolina Hurricanes 19 656
New York Rangers 19 543
Buffalo Sabres 18 805
Montreal Canadiens 20 329
Toronto Maple Leafs 19 522
Florida Panthers 18 165
Columbus Blue Jackets 18 867
Winnipeg Jets 17 919
Philadelphia Flyers 18 059
Colorado Avalance 19 239
Minnesota Wild 19 455

I always get made fun of by Leafs fans saying no one comes to watch the Sens play. And how abysmal our ticket selling is (unless its a Leafs vs Sens game).

So I am proud of my fellow Sens fans buying tickets! Keep it up!!! I will get in my token game a year in soon enough (sadly, its a little far away for me).

There are a lot of freebies in those numbers. Season ticket holders often also get a free bronze game.

It's not like a free ticket from a jersey sale is a lost seat. They still sold the jerseys and the attendees will use the concession stands...

Eh, not THAT many freebies.

A few to be sure, but most of those attendance numbers are legit. Give or take a couple hundred (minus the Jersey Promo games, obviously: Colorado, the upcoming Tampa game, and a few tix for Florida).

The team also has had a lot of package deals, like the Metro Family Fun night. The CBJ game, for example, was one of those nights, where a person could pay $99 (plus taxes) for four 300-level tickets, four hot dogs, and four drinks.

The Sens are doing a lot to try to get people out to the rink.

Not that surprised about the Jets game. They sold the tickets at 'silver' prices. Too lazy to do the math... not sure if 18k at silver prices is more than 19k and change at bronze.

They have these every year though. Metro Family nights and Subway Stub games.

Anyway, point is attendance is good. Promos happen for every team, and it's not like our promos are on Phoenix's level (100 level tickets for $25 with $1 food, drinks, beer for the game against Edmonton, I believe). You still have to drop a good chunk of change on jerseys to get the free tickets.

Closer to a few thousand per game.

There are ~= 10,000 - 11,000 season ticket holders.
Team 1200 gives about 100 or so tickets per week.
Two for one deals on some games (Want a Habs game? Ok but see a Panthers game too).
Some nights, like the Military Nights, tons of tickets are released through the DND network.

It's good to see the team is drawing a good amount though. Bodes well for the future. :

I would think the All-Star game probably bumped up ticket sales quite a bit. Personally I normally only go to about five games a year, but this year I picked up the 20 game package to get access to the All-Star game tickets.

I'm sure there are plenty of other people in the city that did something a long those lines as well.

Didn't seem like there was over 19K there last night. Lot of no shows I guess.

Nothing wrong with giving away tickets (and it's not like they're all just given away, people still have to buy things to get them and what not...most of them anyway). We could just not do it, and then all have a nice embarrassing discussion on the main board about why there's 15,000 people at the games rather than 19,000. The organization is doing a great job getting people to games, that's great.

No. If anything, it's in the high hundreds.

A hundred sounds pretty exaggerated. About a dozen per game. 20 on the high end. Also, these tickets can't be considered "free", they are part of the whole cross-promotional deal the Sens have with Team 1200. Yes, guests technically go to the games free through these tickets, but the Sens are getting value back for them, they're not lost revenue at all.

Are you talking about the 3-game packs? Lots of teams do that. You get a discount on tickets by getting good games with bad ones.

The majority of Canadian Forces that attend Military night attend because season ticket holders donate THEIR OWN tickets in support of troops. Tickets are still paid for. Again, people attend the games for free, but those tickets are still paid for at some point, that's not lost revenue for the hockey club.
