Goaltending solution

Would you trade 1st rounder and 3rd rounder in 2013 for Cory Schnieder in the offseason? I think he would stabilize or situation and make us a playoff team.

The league wide goaltending solution has always seemed to be "keep drafting goalies until you get lucky".

Spend another 3rd or 4th rounder on a goalie this June and cross your fingers.

Blues have two good goalies in Elliott and Halak. Elliott appears to have taken over as #1. Blues are a budget team, who may not want to carry Halak as a 3M backup past this summer. Might not take as much as you think to pry him out of St Louis this summer.

Devan Dubnyk > Cory Schnieder....but he would be a good back up for Doobie.

They might actually have three good goalies. Will be interesting to see what they do if Bishop is indeed NHL ready.

Nope.

Offer them a fair deal that includes a 2nd in 2013 + a prospect.

if they say no then offersheet Schnieder for the max that doesnt include a 1st round pick. (~$3.1M)

So far Schneider is better than Debbie. I wonder how the Canucks will manage to fit him under the cap. He will want something in the range of 3mil anyway.

How much of their performance is actually attributed to the defense though?

i think they want to keep both, ideal system, where you have two somewhat equal tenders, who are both playing well, and combine for like what 6M?

nice situation to be in, if one starts playing badly you can ride the other.

Good lord no. Terrible idea.
a) Canucks would never trade Schneider within the division.
b) Free Agent goaltenders are available for cheap. See Brian Elliott of the Blues. There's just not enough starting positions for so many goaltenders.

exactly. there never seems ot be a shortage of good goaltenders to sign.
so to think of giving up a first? madness.

Blues have a very good D, but Halak proved with the Habs playoff run a few years back that he can do it basically on his own.

But they have Bishop as the next in line, and he sounds like a decent player. They also have a few of their own FA's they need to sign, and money is tight there. Who knows what their plans are, but wouldn't hurt to inquire.

Schneider is just as uncertain as Dubnyk.

We would be foolish to hand assets to Vancouver for him.

UFA this summer, why dont we just take a flyer on him in the offseason?

before we can do anything though, we need to dump khabby.

Never trade a top 3 1st rounder unless the return was another high 1st rounder and a player. Goalies are absolutely a no trade for 1st rounder.

Hopefully we can get rid of Khabby and Barker for something useful. Too bad they promised Sutton a no trade this season.

He's a backup goalie and hasn't proved that he can be a starter. Our D is the main problem, not our goaltending. Schneider wouldn't fair much better here than DD imo.

While Bishop could turn out, he is unproven at the NHL level. Halak is a proven vet. If we truly want to make a playoff push next year, I would go with the vet.

The only team who I think would try to pry Schneider is Toronto. Knowing Burke, probably a first and Kadri

the Canucks also have to resign Eddie Lack who is putting up real nice numbers, scuttlebutt is that they plan on moving schneider and advancing lack to schneiders spot after the playoffs. Makes good sense really for them at any rate.
