Shero wanted to do something about our lackluster scoring depth...

Probably just to be the 13th forward since Asham is still out and Williams was sent down. Hopefully he doesn't start because his 3 minutes of ice time are a waste of a spot.

I wonder what Big Mac's record is for number of consecutive NHL games played without a fight.

Could be they're getting tired of Malkin being targeted. With Asham out, that only leaves Engo who can actually fight. If they dress BigMac then they don't lose an actually useful player for 5 minutes if the need arises. Of course, there's the flip side of that.

**EDIT** Might also have something to do with the Blues running over Howard last night

I'm happy about it. Fights are going to happen, and guys like Malkin are being run every game. Much rather have Mac spend 5 minutes in the box, break a hand, get concussed, etc than someone like Engelland. I could care less if he only plays 3 minutes a game and has zero chance of scoring. Guys like Williams, Adams, Park, Tangradi, hell Kennedy only have a slightly higher chance of scoring.

Don't know about anybody else, but I'm excited to potentially watch him slowly skate around the ice for a 2-3 minutes a game and not fight.

Yeah. That's going to be something to behold. And when he's on the bench when Fleury gets run, he can yell some stuff and maybe a few shifts later, ask their dedicated tough guy (who had nothing to do with running Fleury) to go... who will probably decline.

He's sure been a treat to watch, this season.

Meh, he could leave the bench .. not like we'd miss him for 10 games

Blysma is a coach that normally when we are winning doesn't mess with the lines.

So why on earth is Big Mac coming up? I mean we don't really need to bring him up just to sit in the press box do we?

HA! True enough.

I thought that was the only worthwhile thing Godard did in his latter years with the Penguins. I mean... it got him suspended for 10 games but it was at least an actual example of an enforcer directly impacting an on-ice incident. As opposed to the little staged dog and pony show we usually see involving these types of players.

Anyway... he's probably just the 13th forward, like someone else already said. I doubt the lineup will get tampered with.

The Blues seem to have quickly taken on the personalty of their new coach. I seem to remember them playing pretty nasty against us and our stars last time we met. Maybe that's a factor here.

Except it did nothing to stop the antics that the Islanders were performing that night. He got kicked out of the game, and they proceeded to go about doing what they were doing the whole rest of the game.

So basically even in his attempt to be useful, he proved he was still useless.

Yeah, I know... but, I mean... he tried to do something to actually make some sort of difference. As opposed to just beating on some essentially random dude's face a few shifts after the incident.

I know, but my point was that it still amounted to not changing anything.

That's complete nonsense. There's no way of ever knowing how badly Johnson may have gotten beaten if Godard didn't jump in. Don't forget, the Isles had 4 legitimate goons in that lineup. We had 1, and 2 other tough guys (Engo and Rupp) who unfortunately got game misconducts early. Once they got tossed, it was 'open season' on the rest of the team. Hell, we didn't even have Cooke or Asham that night.

while I'm not on the ET bandwagon. I hope they don't sit him so that Mac can get a few minutes. Which if he plays is who will sit.

You're still missing the point yet again. Having Godard did nothing to prevent any of the Islanders players from STARTING anything even BEFORE he was ejected.

If your referring to the stupid staged fights, then yea, sure I rather see Mac go do his thing. But if it's a passionate game and a real fight, throwing Mac out there won't serve a purpose. Guys like TK and Asham are Penguins players . Seeing them fight means alot to their team mates. I have doubts that the team even considers Mac as a team mate. He plays once a month, and when he does he can't contribute in any way. Can't even make a pass.

Plus, what do you think goes through the players' heads when they practice with a guy like Mac or Godard who prob can't even raise the puck or skate backwards. It's a joke and an embarrassment.

I rather see Asham or Engelland fight. Then you know it's a worth while fight with a reason behind it.

Why the call-up then? Is it essential to have 13 forwards on the big roster at all times, even if that 13th forward is 100% certain not to dress?

No, but they're already in LTIR space so it doesn't make a difference with respect to the salary cap. Maybe Shero promised Mac and some of the other two-way vets a certain number of NHL payscale days.
