Best player half way through the year

Which player do you think has been the sens best player so far this year?

This is inspired by a thread on the main board.

(This isn't who has done the best compared to expectations, but who is the best player/helps the sens win the most)

Edit, my order is the order of the options in the poll.

This thread needs a poll.

Karlsson, Spezza, Alfie. In that order. Honorable mentions to Michalek.

I'm actually tempted to go Spezza.

Really close though.

His face-offs are insane and he is the team's leading scorer.

I think Gonchar helps out with Karlsson (when he isn't injured). I'm not sure we have another centre even close to Spezza's abilities.

Spezza has been our best. Even when he's not scoring he's winning faceoffs and creating chances.

Karlsson #2

Alfie/Michalek after that.

As for exceeding expections: Smith, Condra and Cowen

By faaaar not the best, but I think Konopka helped bring the room together alittle, did the same thing with the Islanders last year, just seems like a good team/locker room guy.

Voted Karlsson though

Karlsson to me is the straw that stirs the drink. Spezza is also awesome though - its really close - but I have to say EK.

His enthusiasm, competitiveness and skill seem to be infectious on this team.

The team goes as EK does. Not really a tough choice.

I'm a big fan of his, but you think Turris has done more for us this season than Smith, Greening, Neil or Kuba? Especially Kuba, who should not be behind Phillips, or half the guys ahead of him.

Spezza or Karlsson, hmm.

Very tough call between Spezza and Karlsson but i think Spezza was our best player. Karlsson's defensive part of the game could've been better and although he has a butload of points he is only scoring goals at last year's pace. On the other hand Spezza was very consistent for the most part and also had some amazing games(Pens home game, Canes home game) reminding me of the Pizza line days. He is also not turning the puck over as much as he did last couple of seasons. Spezza.

Well, I think it's Spezza's best season so far in terms of all-around performance.

Of course, then you have Karlsson, who is playing like no other Sens defenceman has ever played.

It's fun to watch, that's for sure.

Sorry, done more for? no. Better player? i think so. Kinda confusing i guess. Basically i think if turris was here from the start of the year he would have done as much, or more then them, though it's tough to tell. In the short amount of time turris has been in ottawa, he's done real well.

As for phillips vs. kuba, meh, it's a toss up to me. Kuba's benefited from playing with karlsson. Karlsson is so good that kuba knows his role and just sits back and lets karlsson do his thing. I would vote kuba for biggest comeback year, him or michalek.

Its close between Spezza and Karlsson but I have to go with EK. The team goes as he goes. There have been few games this year where Karlsson hasn't been one of our better players in wins.

After those two I'd say Michalek has been our best. Followed by Kuba, Smith and Alfie in that order.

Spezza is carrying this team. Nobody can replace either player and even if Karlsson is the more unique player I have a hard time seeing this team without Spezza right now.

It'd be silly to award this to anyone but Karlsson. On the other hand, Neil and Kuba are the players that exceeded my expectations the most. Foligno, Anderson, Alfie, Spezza, and Michalek are all roughly where my expectations were.

One player is on pace for 80 pts the other 76 pts.

One is a forward and your #1 C while the other is your #1 Dman. It does not take much to figure out who is having the better season IMO.

Oh and may I ADD that Karlsson is a PLUS player now and Spezza is not

Seriously, I think Jason is just having a good season which is great cuz he is earning his 7 mill. But I think he can go another level if he finds a consistent top level winger on his line permanently.

Definitely Spezza.

We are a bottom 3 team without him.

Without Karlsson we can still compete with other teams, but would probably still be a bottom 10 team.

Voted Karlsson but Kuba, Gonch, Smith and Condra are a BIG reason why we've won as much as we did and why we're exceeding expectations.

We won't know until we go an extended time without Karlsson. I imagine we wouldn't strugle as hard as we did last year if Spezza went out this year. We'd be worse off obviously...but there was tons more wrong with that team last year.
