Karlsson has been our best player. But Spezza is more valuable since our forward (namely center) depth is much weaker compared to our defensive depth. If Spezza goes down then Turris would become our number 1 center, which is a much bigger drop off then considering someone like Gonchar or Cowen or Kuba or Phillips our top pairing defencemen.

So Karlsson is better, but we hurt more with Spezza down.

Karlsson and Spezza are 1a and 1b. Spezza frustrated me earlier in the year but he's been very good for the most part since then. I can't criticize him for having off-games since Karlsson has them too. Also if Karlsson is the engine of this team Spezza is a substantial portion of the rest of the car.

Michalek is third, Alfie probably is fourth, after that I don't know. Z Smith maybe. TBH given the expectations it's hard not to be positive about pretty much everybody.

Like many i think it's a 1a 1b type thing i went with Spezza over Karlsson because i feel he has been just a little more consistent combined with his face-off responsibilities and percentage. Also he had more pressure put on him via media, fans etc...and still does this season.

Karlsson. You can tell just by the amount of threads created for him on the main board.

Honorable mention to Kuba Troopa. I didn't like hearing the mixed reaction at the home opener so I'm glad he's bounced back.

I would say that without joking. This team gets out of their end and into the other with good offensive chances consistently because of EK. Spezza has been great, but Karlsson has been the key.

What an awesome dilemma to have; which awesome player of ours has had a bit more of an awesome season so far Karlsson or Spezza...?

I'll say this, Karlsson has been a great surprise and is playing like a star so soon, while Spezza has been a star for a while now and is not quite as shiny. In reality we'd probably be in more trouble if Spezza went down to injury over Karlsson because we would lack our offensive zone catalyst, but those two together are magic!

Agreed, or a "Who Has Most Exceeded Expectations?" thread.

People have short memories here...I don't. I am the only one to choose Michalek.

It's Spezza then Karlsson.

People are infatuated with Karlsson right now (he's an amazing player) but our team would completely fall apart without Spezza...losing Karlsson would hurt us but not as much.

Right now Karlsson is on a hot-streak and has people forgetting just how bad he has been in some of the games we've played this year. Spezza hasn't been scoring but that's mostly on the inability of his linemates to finish the opportunities he creates. If he could pass to himself it would be another story.

Anyway, not to get off track.

Spezza
Karlsson
The rest

Karlsson with Spezzas a very close second. Milan gets a third place vote, and Alfie has been making serious noise lately.

My pick for surprising player is Smith.

He has so many intangibles that he doesn't even need to score much to have an impact, but his production has been impressive

Tough to pick just one with so many players having rebouind and break through years. They are feeding off each other, and the team has great chemistry, so it is as much about the team coming together.

Karlsson/Spezza
Michalek
Alfie
Foligno

That would be my top 5.

HM to Smith.

IMO Michalek and Karlsson but I voted for Nick Foligno for his gritty, hard and tough play, his variability and big heart.

Most Improved Player.......100% without a doubt Nick Foligno! He deserves huge credit for how far along his game has come in the last year.

I agree. It is remarkable how Foligno has raised his level of play this season. Especially some of his quick moves and stick handling and his willingness to go to the net. In previous years I thought he spent too much time on the boards, lost track of the middle of the ice and where the net was.

Foligno has really been coming into his own. However that seems to be natural for power forwards (considering his play, I would classify him as one.) I think if the curve continues he's still got room to grow.
