Fine a player this much when one puts another players career in jeopardy.

30k and only 2500 for a headshot is quite simply put, a travesty. Campbell can go **** himself
You tell him brother. I didn't see your post and just pretty much said the same thing. As long as Bettman is running things, it's gonna continue to be "business as usual.". The league is run like a freakin Pre K school program. As long as d**k***d remains commissioner, nothing changes. It's now "us against the league" and you know what, we'll win despite it all.

Don't see his comments really hurting us in the long run, I'm glad he said something. It wouldn't be the first time refs held prejudice against the Rangers.

Did anyone watch the Bettman interview after the game? He didn't look too happy.. and never ONCE said "Congratulations to the New York Rangers" which is what I was waiting for...

Torts did what he had to do ... for the team.

The league did what it needed to do in fining Torts.

The case is closed for everyone directly involved. They will all be moving forward.

It's a regular season game, not the Stanley Cup finals...

So I am curious. What happens if Torts speaks his mind during the last 24/7 installment? We've yet to see it of course, but what we may hear there might be MUCH worse then the press conference. I'd imagine he's immune from anything said there?

I still love Tort's comments. I kinda wish he didn't back away from them but I get why he had to.

For my money they were spot on.

Many players are simply fined and avoid suspension.

On the other hand, If this doesn't inspire the players, nothing will. Far as they're concerned, this man just took a 30K hit for calling out the refs on their behalf.

He put the reputation of the league at risk. He deserved the fine.

Though I agree with him. Mcdonagh delay of game, and Gaborik hook non call were awful. Cally should have gone our way too.

This league is a joke.

The calls were horrible, and it was as clear as day that they wanted Philly to win in OT.

After Campbell being called into check, nothing shocks me anymore.

If Bettman could, he'd have the Penguins beat the Flyers in game 7 of the ECF in double OT to have the Penguins face the Capitals in the Stanley Cup finals.

That's his wet dream. He's already compromised the integrity of the game with the favoritism that the Caps and Pens get. Why not screw the other teams some more, right?

I have a feeling that Dolan probably picked up the tab on the fine, so Tort's salary wasn't changed.

You tell him pal. The league can't stand the Rangers as it is and now d**k***d Bettman and his suck up Colie want to put their two cents worth in? Screw both of them!

I agree 100%, just wondering how big of a chunk of his salary that is.

30k for voicing one's opinion but only 2.5k for potentially ending someone's career. This league makes no sense.

It makes plenty of sense from a business perspective. The league is worth billions, a player only millions.

That said, I would have loved Torts to have held his ground and simply stand by his statement. Or even if he would have said, I stand by what I said although in hindsight it wasn't appropriate to voice my opinion publicly.

The league cares a lot more about its public image than it does player safety. That was made clear with the "Sloppy Seconds" suspension.

Ironically enough, Torts ripping the league a new one for poor officiating is not what will garner the most negative publicity for the NHL. The league's failure to protect its players and concussion problems will do far more harm to the NHL's image than Torts' words ever will. It already started last month with the NY Times' 3-part expose on Boogaard's death.
