Saying it didn't change the game is a complete lie. They were dominating in the beginning of the period, and to suddenly be trailing by such a fluke play, it's extremely demoralizing. Especially considering the Blues play very well with a lead, and the Sharks had trouble scoring against them all season.

Team Canada needs 1F and 1D to complete roster. Seguin and Vlasic likely. Assuming both are healthy and willing.

I hope Seguin goes.

I'm not saying I disagree that the goal was completely demoralizing for the Sharks. The classless part was Niemi's statement that "you don't exactly love teammates like that." It's pretty much universally agreed upon that, regardless of the play your teammate made, you stick by him. Whether or not it was Niemi's actual feeling, he implied that Vlasic single-handedly made them lose, and that he doesn't appreciate him as a teammate. You can say that sort of stuff in the locker room, but it's generally accepted that you don't say that kind of stuff to the media.

Except that's the writer's opinion (about Niemi nonetheless), Niemi never said that. His quote ends at "That changed the whole game, I think."

Look at that. You're right. Actually, re-reading it, I guess it's the writer's opinion that you don't exactly love teammates like Niemi for commenting that your mistake screwed the entire team for the rest of the game.

I withdraw my statement that it was pretty classless, but I don't think it was the best thing he could say in the situation. Better to fall back on some generally ambiguous answer about what the team could have done better throughout the game. It's pretty standard in player-media conversations anyway.

Should probably get back on topic, though.

I guess they're holding the last F spot for Spezza if he wants to go?

Spezza will get a call during the next few days I'm sure.

Is there an updated version of the teams current roster yet?

Vlasic was the Sharks 2nd most valuable player this year after Thornton. The top 5 in my rankings can be all interchangable, with only really that 6th spot up for grabs.
Dan Girardi, currently, is the second best defenseman out of that group. Keith is the only one that I'd take before Girardi.

Anyways, Vlasic is a solid addition and provides a "shut-down" type of a defenseman.

Defense:
Keith
Vlasic
Bouwmeester
Subban
Phaneuf
Schenn
Methot

Here is my guess for D pairings:
Duncan Keith* - P.K. Subban* (all types of situation unit)
Bouwmeester* - Vlasic (shutdown pair)
Phaneuf* - Schenn
Methot (PK)

Look for (*) to be on the PP.

This defense is meh... but it could have been a lot worse. I just wish Seabrook could play and replace Luke Schenn.

I don't think the D is bad at all. What other country is going to have a Duncan Keith caliber D man.

I think this lineup looks pretty good. What do you guys think?
Forwards
Left / Center/ Right
1: Benn/Taveres(A)/Eberle (very skilled)
2: Sharp/Getzlaf(C)/Perry (veteran skill)
3: Kane/Nugent-Hopkins/Skinner (speedy and skilled)
4: O'Reilly/Ladd/Purcell (veteran shut down role)
Any of these top 3 lines can step up to be the first line, but I think the Taveres line looks really nice on paper.

D-men:
Subban-Keith
Phaneuf(A)-Bouwmeester
Vlasic-Methot
Extra:Schenn

The D-fence needs some serious work. Three elite guys in my opinion, Keith, Bouwmeester and Subban. They can all skate, play well on the large ice and are skilled. Phaneuf, Methot and Schenn(for sure) aren't fast enough for the large ice, but can still be effective. I think Vlasic should be OK.

Goal:
Ward
Experienced stanley cup winning goalie who makes the big save and the regular saves.

Adam Mitchell is actually not half bad at the bigger ice. I, for one, could see him cracking the final roster.

Instead of Purcell ....one of Staal, Lucic, Marchand, Seugin....huge uppgrade.

Why is even Purcell on the team? Not good enough for 3 first line and too soft for checkingline.
