Nash* Getzlaf Perry*
Eberle Tavares Stamkos*
Kane Ladd Skinner

Phaneuf Subban
Bouwmeester

Ward

Would be sick if the * confirmed. Then 4th line...Bergeron Seguin Crosby 13th Forward Toews ... that's all if Boston, Pittsburgh and Chicago get eliminated hahaha!

Not a bad start for going into the Skoda European championships.

Can't wait to see who rounds out the roster.

Dregger tweeted a couple days ago that its unlikely Nash will be going.

So I guess he is up to go if invited.

Glad Subban is going, I love that kid.

Subban going is huge for this team.

Main Reason: His familiarity with big ice (obviously the two WJC and playing his entire junior career on Olympic Sized Ice) should be huge for the defense. Add all of these other fantastic players coming and wow, this team looks awesome.

After Price turned down his invite, it's a good thing that Ward is going.

Uhh...Subban only ever played 1 tournament on International ice, and saw limited time as 7th D-man (2008 WJC, 2009 was in Ottawa on NHL ice).

His junior was played in Belleville in the OHL. Unless this specific team, for some reason, used International ice, he has very little experience with it...

So, not sure I understand your post?

Belleville, oddly enough, actually does have international sized ice.

How big a roster can each team carry? Also do you know what the deadline is or if there is one for naming your team?

Wow, forget my last post then. That's incredibly surprising that the OHL allows that type of home ice advantage in this day an age. I know Original Six arenas all varied slightly, but that's quite a difference. Thanks!

out of curiosity, how does this process work? do they look for players that have participated on a Hockey Canada team first and then ask other players? or is an invite sent out to any and every well playing Canadian that didn't make the playoffs? i ask because my father is wondering about Matt Moulson. thanks in advance! you guys are lookin real good this year.

Wouldn't be able to tell with all the "who cares about the Worlds anyway" response you get from Canadians when they lose.

I'd be guessing if I told you any of those things. I believe you can carry something like 23 players, and you can pick players up fairly late into the tournament, at least the second round of the playoffs. There is a deadline, probably after the first 3 games. But, I'm just guessing off memory.

I was just kidding. I actually defended Bouwmeester a little in the World Championships thread on the Oilers board.

The Philly-Pitsburgh series could yield some good players for us: Giroux and Hartnell or Crosby and Letang.

I dont know how Crosby thinks, but if I had played 20 games in the past 15 months I would be dying for more hockey (provided he is fully healthy)

You would have to think Giroux woudl accept an invite considering he has no Senior international experience

Stamkos isn't sure yet.

Quote:
There is also hope that the NHL's leading goal-scorer Steven Stamkos will make the trip. The Tampa Bay Lightning star hit the 60-goal mark despite playing with a sore left shoulder late in the season and had a precautionary MRI on Monday.

"It's nothing major, we just want to make sure that nothing is wrong and we don't want it to happen again," Stamkos told reporters in Tampa.

He's expected to inform Hockey Canada about his availability in the coming days.

So to summarize from that article:
Getzlaf
Perry
Tavares
Bouwmeester
Phaneuf
Ward
Skinner
Ladd
Eberle
Kane
Subban
Methot
Benn (expected)
O'Reilly (expected)

Things may have changed since the preliminary round is 7 games now. Then quarter-finals right after that's done.

I like Methot, but Over Gorges??

I was also hoping Desharnais would get an invite but I think the roster is just a little too deep.

Yeah, not sure why we have international sized ice here but we do. He really knows how to play on it well and I think that's a big reason why he was so effective in the 2009 WJC...and it wouldn't surprise me if he has an excellent tournament to be honest.

Looking like a very good team.

The WHC for Canada is not only about winning Gold, but also about evaluating some players for the 2014 games if the NHL does go.

Obviously, there are guys who were in Vancouver, but the 2014 games are on International Ice, so this is a very good opportunity for some players to showcase what they can do on the bigger ice surface or to show that they can play equally well on big ice.

Hockey Canada brass is going to be interested in seeing Eberle, Kane, Tavares, Skinner, not to mention Benn, O'Reilly, etc.

From the teams eliminated, I'm surprised to not see Eric Staal's name. I remember at last year's All-Star game he has a young son, but I think his kid is like 2 or 3, so he could easily take his wife and kid over with him. Eric was in 2010, but he was moved to wing and didn't have much chemisty with Sid and Iggy. For 2014, would be he a guy whom Canada would move to the wing again or leave at Center.

Iggy is 35, so I wouldn't expect Canada to ask him to go.

Nash, no reason for him not to go. He's got a long term contract.

There's still Heatley, Roy, Lupul, Hodgson as well.

If the Pens fall in round 1, I would not expect Sid to go. I think it's safe to say, he's never going to play in the World Championships again.

Big ice really shows up the players that cannot skate well. The angles are different for the goalies too.
