Agreed and he's coached two World Juniors, one Super series and has been part of the international game as a player as well. His experience would be a match for the head coaching position. Also have to remember that the coaches are being evaluated as well, and it could also be a trial for a potential assistant coaching position for the 2014 team if all goes well.

Oh really. That's interesting and surprising if true that they aren't in next year's WC.

The higher the seed you are, the easier the games you get at first. Fairly important in a short tournament with little practice time.

Yup, or last resort, I was hoping they could ask us to coach since we seem to have all the answers!

Completely unacceptable that Stamkos isn't going. He just has a "sore" shoulder. From what I can gather, it isn't injured. And the tournament is still a few weeks away. I love the kid, but come on. Our defence is also a gigantic fail. Also, where is Rick Nash?

Still don't see why some people are ragging on the defense.

Bouwmeester has been named best defenseman at this tournament before, Phaneuf for all his faults would waltz onto any teams defense at this thing and when on is a force, Subban is one of the better and more promising young d-men in the game and Methot was pretty damn good last year at this tournament if you watched the games, I was suitably impressed with his steady if not spectacular play last year, but being spectacular is not his game and it doesn't need to be.

The defense could turn out fine.

On paper the forwards look damn good, the defense looks o.k to good.

I'd be more worried about the goaltending then anything. Have to wait and see how that works out but it causes me the most concern.

Which brings me to another point, that's what always seems to concern me with any Team Canada these days.

Still waiting for our new bona fide number one brick wall to come along.

That really doesn't concern me that much. Sometimes you can pick up bad habits playing the easier team at first.

Anyway it should go by the results of the last Olympics but that's the IIHF for you.

Purcell plays for Tampa Bay 24g and 41a this year. As far as players declining this is nothing new.

Methot was great last year, probably our steadiest and most dependable defenseman on the big ice. Glad he's coming again. Staal decline. Nash Declined. Hamonic has a broken nose. Brewer is old, he's put his time in. Giordano is hurt.

Ted Purcell is the guy who set up probably 70% of Stamkos' goals since January. I think he'll do fine.

Canada will have a high probability % to win the worlds this year, I can tell even though the rosters aren't yet set. Maybe the D doesn't look THAT scary good, but could be good enough anyway.

The only player in the NHL with more points post all star break then purcell was malkin. Cody Hodgson.... Really? Look at that roster its stacked. Parenteau and Moulson are products of their linemate and hockey canada knows it they are also both born in 83. This tournament is about development for the big one in 2 years time. Purcell also had I believe 10 goals in tampas playoff run last year. I honestly think Benn is taking Nash's spot, its too bad about staal but I honestly want to see what RNH can do at this level. OReilly is unbelievable defensively love him as the 4th line center.

Skinner Tavares Eberle
Benn Getzlaf Perry
Kane Nugent-Hopkins Purcell
Ladd O'Reilly

That is an unbelievably skilled group of forwards. The amount of raw skill and talent on that first line is absolutely out of control. The second line could easily be the power line in Sochi.

Has he ever even worn their National Team colours? I mean he's lived there and all but I don't think he's ever actually played for them. . .

Moulson should have been invited already.

Hamonic declined for personal reasons, no idea what they are though.
