The AHL bills itself as the second best league in the world (if they truly are is a different debate) and it would be bad PR for them to not have one...
Then why don't all the European leagues have them?

Maybe the AHL should have a game in Chicago!
If you look at the map, Toronto is about as east as syracuse, rochester, etc.

Anybody have all the ASG attendance numbers and the % of capacity?

Aren't european seasons about half the length?
To the second part the majority of the games have been played on weeknights if I recall correctly

Most leagues in Europe are about 60 games but still, no ASG.
If the ASG was so important, why not have it on a weekend? The AHL ASG is a joke. They cut the schedule down to avoid 3 in threes, which didn't really work out too well, and to have more practice time (this is according to the dark lord and master Andrews) why not get an extra 4 or 5 days to that by eliminating the ASG?
But it's a good PR move to have one at a neutral site over 100 miles from the closest AHL team because no team wants to host it?
I've been to 3 (two because they were in Portland, a city I love, and the one we hosted in Hershey last year). The games are your basic ASG's. The skills comps are cool because they drop the glass nearly all the way around and the players spend time interacting with fans. The side events (they use one for HOF inductions) are a good thing and from a social standpoint, it's a good way to see other fans. Ovrall, I think it works.
As to the neutral site thing, I'm not overly concerned with it. I still think the AHL is looking at Atlantic City as a possible future home for the Devils. Also, not being hosted by a particular team, the costs are probably spread around more, and the ad & corporate revenue might actually make it a little profitable. AC has other things to do, so it'll draw some people just on that.
Overall (and admittedly, I'm just guessing), but advertising revenue from corporate sponsors, PR from the side events and the events themselves, and visibility from the broadcast of the game probably make it a worthwhile endeavor overall .

I've been to 3 as well (Philly, Portland and Grand Rapids) and to be honest I think the skills competition was probably the most entertaining part of the weekend. The game itself is just a snoozefest.
That said how can an all-star game be any kind of barometer for a potential move of the Devils to Atlantic City, which, IMO would be an utter disaster (just see what happened in Trenton after the Devils took over there)?
I will be curious to see what kind of crowd they get. AC is well over 100 miles from any AHL city and I don't see many people in the Philadelphia area doing cartwheels to go to AC for an AHL all-star game. I also don't see many fans from western conference teams jumping on planes to go to the pit that is Atlantic City.
I think by now modern society has come to terms with the idea All Star games in sports are a shell of the spot \\rt itself and are a stinkin joke.
Thye AHL and ECHL are as close as I can ever recall now. You see many vets who are one year AHL guys the next year ending up in the E.
I'm confused as to what your point is...are you saying that you see many guys playing in the AHL all star game and then playing in the ECHL the next year?
In the business world full of sponsors and potential sponsors, yes.
I'd be curious to see the line of businesses looking to sponsor the AHL All-Star game. In fact, is there even a sponsor of the game yet? If not, that speaks volumes.

Not specifically the ASG, but other league ventures and individual teams.
Such as sponsors for next years events, which is what Worcester used the 2008 game for...and from that game in Bongo the WorSharks got two other sponsors that still do business with the team.

Well, I think we know who the sponsors are...

The 2012 edition is presented by the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority, the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, Caesars Atlantic City, and the AHL. Link
The event information page even links you over to the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority webpage rather than an AHL website.

I realize that this is considered rumor at this point but I understand that the game will be in Hershey again next year for our 75th anniversary with the league. The kicker is that it will be an outdoor game at the Hershey Stadium.
Due to the arrangements being made for the outdoor game, the secret is poorly kept in these parts.
Pure rumor at this point, but the people talking to me about it are in a position to know (same person who clued me into the recent outdoor game this year a year in advance).

Eh, I'd be more excited if the game was held at the old barn.

After going to the recent Outdoor classic I probably would not consider going to this game. The Outdoors idea is cool and all but after everyone is starting to do it now its starting to lose the "WOW" factor. The All-Star game is already kind of boring as it is already and it sounds like having it in Hershey Park Stadium would be just to get an attendance boost/Profit boost

I agree with you, the Old Barn would be great. I'll certainly go because more than likely season ticket holders will get free tickets again, but not due to any great excitement about the game being held outdoors.
If the outdoor game pans out, I believe the sight lines will be better (than CBP) due to the smaller size of the stadium.
Anyone at the skills yesterday? I caught a little bit of the broadcast and it looked like the place was empty. The applause, or lack thereof, at the player introductions was pretty weak and most of the players looked like they didn't want to be there.

If you look at the Nhl all star break its a week long festival players did arrive in Ottawa thursday and had a good 4 days while in the the Ahl players did arrive yesterday the game is today and that's it so its not much of a break.
