Thanks Wooten. This brought back a great memory from a job I used to have. Staff were always complaining about static when using their phones, just the opening the maintenance guys needed. They told everyone there was dust in the lines and to put the receivers in the waste baskets overnight so maintenance could blow out the dust using the air compressor. Well, you know the office was a pretty funny sight the next morning. Damn I love gullible people.
You are among some of the most- Blue Jacket fans -
Hejda's shutdown years, he was paired with Mike Commodore.
How quickly you forget about Rusty Klesla and Adam Foote.
(Heck, I'd take a player equivalent to am in-his-prime Foote on this team right now, to cover for Wisniewski - then we'd have a truly legit top-4. Not Foote himself, of course; he can go die in a fire. )

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Very true. I forgot when he was paired with those guys. You are 100% correct.
He played with Erik Johnson for the first two months and it was a huge disaster. Since then he's been moved to a shutdown pair with Ryan O'Byrne, who miraculously sports a neutral +/- rating despite being paired with what is a now minus—15 Jan Hejda.
It hasn't gotten to the point where Hejda's the punching bag of Avalanche fans, but we're rapidly approaching that time. And there's still another three years left on his deal...
I'll say this, and I liked Hejda when he was here, he has very clearly lost a step or two, and it showed last season. If the Avs scouted Hejda last season and still offered him that four-year deal the scout responsible should be relocated to Siberia. I was not sad to see Hejda the player go, but Hejda himself is a nice guy so I really hope he finds a way to be effective for you guys.
I remember him being awesome during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics on a pairing with Roman Polak. But this year for the Colorado Avalanche he's been a train wreck in all three zones, constantly chasing the puck defensively and getting trapped up ice offensively. His team worst minus—14 rating is no mistake.
Polak's a lot better than most people would give him credit for. And yes, Hejda was in decline.
An important job that a GM has is determining whether a player is having a down year or if he's truly declining. I will say that it's not strictly that Hejda is declining; that entire team looks like it lacks direction, with a coaching staff that specifically has no idea how to handle Hejda.
Oilers now only 6 points "behind" Columbus. Any worries, CBus fans?
Not really, I have full confidence that the Blue Jackets will only win games when the other team doesn't really feel like skating, and even then we'll find a way to lose.
I would rather get the 1st(if we win the lottery) and trade it down to the 2nd pick and +(I don't care if the + is a 3rd rounder or whatever). Then we get Grigorenko + something else

Yes. The team is playing decent under Richards. You guys are in a free fall.

Nobody would trade a significant piece to jump one spot when they can get an almost identical superstar at their same pick.
Just finished watching Malkin win in OT vs. Washington on national NBC... man that game was NHL hockey at it's best. Watching those two teams move the puck makes Columbus look like an ECHL team.. great game.

I wouldn't consider a 3rd round pick significant if a team wants to be in the spotlight by having the 1st overall pick. Now if it's Edmonton, then I doubt they would because I don't think they want to be the team with 3 straight 1st overall picks. Plus, even if they move up to 1st, do they pick the best player or do they draft a defensemen, which they truly need. I think they would prefer not pick.
Best case scenerio for me is a 3 way deal. If the Blue Jackets drop to 2, Oilers drop to 3, and the team with the original 3rd pick drops to 1.
And Oilers wins in a shootout. Dubnyk was fantastic.

Ovechkin was much better than Malkin too... and look now. Grigorenko is better than Yakupov IMO. If Grigorenko would play in CHL the last year too, not Nail but he would be prefered by fans.

For years Ovechkin was better than Malkin, but before Boudreau messed with the system and forced Ovie to play the style he didn't want to it shot his confidence, and hasn't been the same. Grigorenko doesn't have to game breaking ability of Yakupov.
