Cole on Subban: Selfishness

When asked by McGuire on potential thoughts on advice for Subban:

Coaching staff had the luxury of sending the message that the selfishness is something they can't have. He said that the coaching staff made the right decision because they need Subban because he is a good player but what they don't need is the undisciplined and selfish behavior.

Thoughts on his candid post game interview with McGuire?

Thoughts are delete this before some idiot in the media reads it and spins it into a useless story.

Great leadership. Maybe PK can room with Cole.

Can we have a 1-month moratorium on discussing Subban in the media? Leave the guy alone, sheesh.

Correct, but you never call out your teammate like that in front of media. Especially in this city.

He's right. PK took an extremely selfish penalty which is something he does quite often. He always tries to make the flashy play but he needs to stop that. His only focus should winning games... Nothing else.

For the rest of the season, Subban most room with Cole.

Personally, initially I was taken back by his honesty and candor. Half of me agrees with you that a teammate should not speak so openly about another's struggles. On the flip side, Cole is a veteran and is showing up for the Habs as such, his veteran leadership is likely needed and perhaps he voiced what needed to be heard.

Personally, I hope PK regains his swagger and becomes the world-class player he is capable of being in Montreal. He just needs a veteran mentor or something.

Gorges said something similar in the 2nd period intermission. Sounds like the teammates are rallying around the coach. Hopefully PK takes this the right way and learns from it.

Kid is 22 years old and Mike Keenan was just talking about how kids need coaching all the time. He compared Subban to Jeremy Roenick. Very outspoken guy, needed some coaching but great player and that's how he sees PK turning out.

These are just the growing pains of a good young hockey player.

Every time we have a young star in Montreal he ends up getting shipped out for an underpayment. I can just see it now

Took a penalty in the second period, didn't play a shift after that for the duration of the period.

Coaching is getting it, players are too. Dealing with a young player that has offensive upside but needs to learn defense is a difficult obstacle. It takes time and patience and the last thing people should be asking for is a trade. He's talented, no doubt but he needs some time to develop properly and some patience from the fan base as well as the media.

If anyone could've said that in the room, it's ****ing Erik Cole. I like it.

The only thing that upset me on the Subban situation is the media always making a big deal on every action by Subban.

Subban is still pretty young and will learn.. he isnt a desperated cause like Cammalleri...

The leadership of this team seem to have turned the corner.. Cammalleri free, coaching staff starting to put some order in this room.. It suddenly looks good for the rest of the season.. Just play this way every games and they will make me believe again..

PK will get over his issues soon, like other young talented Montreal players before him.

On the flight to his new team.

Why are people discussing trades? The guy will stay a habs. He's young, he's gonna learn and mature.

I agree that it's weird to see another player call another out.... however.

I remember reading somewhere that years ago rookies and younger players were basically given no face time by the press. Now they have as much as anyone else. Subban had a great intro to the NHL and there is a feeding frenzy both good and bad surrounding him. A veteran like Cole should be able to call him out. They've clearly tried doing it in private and it hasn't worked.

If Subban is smart, and I believe he is he'll stop some of his midget hockey ways. He's got a cockiness that I love, but lets let the hockey do the talking. As an example, Emelin is gaining a good rep in the league as a tough hitter. It helps that he doesn't speak english, but, he's let his game do his talking. If PK had done this.... who knows.... but it's not in his makeup. You don't want him to become a hermit, but you do want him to become more quiet, maybe he speaks too much in the room... that wouldn't have happened in the 70's. Eyes open, ears open, Mouth SHUT. Same on the ice.

I'm not at a TV and there aren't any vids online yet, Louis Jean saying Desharnais, Price and Cole had something to say about Subban being selfish.

Ouff. Piling on.

I think there should be one all-pupose Subban thread.

These daily obsession threads are getting ridiculous.

It was a very selfish penalty so I agree with the coaching staff (2nd period benching) and Cole. That being mentioned, I did like Subban's performance (during his first shift in the 3rd, he carried the puck from end to end!) throughout the 3rd... that's how you cope with adversity.

The kid is learning!

This is a throw-away year results wise, time to emphasize development.

Part of PK's development is between his ears. He will be ok, let's hope it's not in Nashville .

And people are so shocked that kids like Skost got traded with almost no value in return? Hmm Gee, I wonder why.
