Hopefully he has a Brown/JJ mindset as opposed to Doughty.
But with all due respect, they didn't solidify themselves as much as Quick has. While Brown and Johnson still had tons of room to grow, Quick has already established himself as one of the better keepers in the league. His asking price will be justified, and his demands SHOULD be met (barring some absurd amount of money).

Very true.
Hopefully he is more willing to meet Dean halfway. Like in the mid 6's.
But why would he care about that AFTER he just got his big payday?
Well, who said it was after?
If JQ's offered 7M by Columbus, does he sign first then realize that he's got a bad team in front of him? Of course not.
In any case, I fully expect DL to make a solid offer to JQ sometime next year and avoid the long drawn out contract negotiations much like DD. At least, I truly hope so.
Goaltenders that make more than $5 million a year are torn apart. A much worse Kings defense made Erik Ersberg look great for a while. I really hope that Quick is with us for a long time, but for 6 or 7 million dollars a year, I think we can find a better solution. It sucks to say that, too, because Quick is one of my favorite players.
Quick only made the 3rd star of the night on NHL on the Fly. But yeah, as soon as July rolls around, sign this guy for 10 years and be done with it. Then throw Bernier into the trade circle.
Dean will want to see Quick perform in the playoffs before thinking about that kind of commitment. Even then, I am not sure Dean will give him a ten year contract and a truck load of money. It's easy to get wrapped up in the regular season stats as we have been the past couple years and seen how Quick has performed at the end of the year.

Just like he did with Drew Doughty AND Anze Kopitar????
Give Quick 7.5 or 8 if that's what it takes. I don't know why what to do in the event of his unrestricted free agency is coming into question. If this franchise wasn't going to be willing to do that (I believe they will), they might as well fold up shop and forget about being a legitimate organization, because if they weren't willing to give their best player best player money, that's just crazy.
JB isn't leverage in the Kings favor because JB will never get a long run of games because Quick's too damn good. I would be ****scared to let Quick go and try rolling with JB. Come on now guys. Quick is the best player on this team by a long way, if this team didn't have him they'd be drafting Yakupov. My first offer would be a little less than the Rinne deal, if he didn't take it, I'd move on to that exact contract.
You guys are ridiculous with your numbers. Lundqvist is currently the highest paid netminder with 6.9M cap hit and you guys want to give Quick 7-8M??? lol
Seriously guys, calm down. Yes, JQ is having a phenomenal season, but goalies just don't make as much money as forwards and dmen. That's just a fact.
Lundqvist at 6.8 and then Rinne at 7 starting next season will be paid higher than Ward. Quick's in that caliber of goaltender. If that's what he demands, and another team is willing to give it to him, the Kings need to be the ones to pony up.
Another thing I've noticed is that all it took was one game against Winnipeg for people on this board to go from really uncomfortable with Bernier's effort between the pipes to we could live with letting the #1 walk if he asked for too much because we have JB.
Goalies getting paid a lot always getting hurt is a myth. Case by case basis. How often does King Henrik get hurt? Quick doesn't hurt now, that won't change because his paycheck got larger.

Other teams have nothing to do with the equation. If the goaltender happens to be the best player on the team then the goaltender should be paid big money if he wants it. Seems to make sense to me. Guys like Lundqvist and Quick are incredibly durable.
I think Quick is by default in a way, but I didn't feel this way until a few weeks ago. The only player on this team that hasn't wilted and taken a break during this hard season is Jonathan Quick. He's the only guy who we know what we're going to get from him every night he hits the ice, without fail. Consistently stellar goaltending has become the norm.

It would be close to franchise suicide to give that much to a goaltender right now. There are other options, who haven't been given the same amount of time to establish themselves. If Quick goes for more than 4 million I'd explore them.
Of course you cannot compare him to a forward or a defenseman.
Tell you what though...he sure is hell top 5 goaltending in the league, and I would say he is the best in the west. At least.
I don't normally care for goalies, but I love JQ and his game, but that doesn't mean I'm going to pay him the kind of money that's being discussed here.
I say DL will sign him to an extension for something around 5-5.5M.
Also have to consider the fact Dean just drafted a highly regarded goaltender out of Finland. Maybe in anticipation that someone is going to move up after a trade.
I agree that he likely won't get a cap hit like that. But if he wins the Vezina and gets Hart consideration at age 26, we are talking a pretty penny and he would certainly be deserving to ask for such a cap hit.
