Not interested in Iginla, his caphit or the price it would take to get him.

If you really think Jarome iginla offers nothing to our team defensively then you clearly don't know anything about him

Cap hit is not an issue.

Not it wouldn't. They have $55 mil in 18 players. Add $7 mil for Iginla and you have $2 mil to replace Mayers, Carcillo, O'Donnel, and Emery (assuming Shaw, Hayes, Kruger, and Olsen are on the big team or players with similar cap hits). You can manage that and that is only if the cap doesn't go up. If the cap was to go up say $1 mil and you bring Salak in to be the back up goalie, you have $2.4 mil to get a 4th line center, 13th forward, and 7th defenseman. That is very manageable.

And the Cap is probably going up too, about 2M.

Kane-Toews-Hayes
Iginla-Sharp-Hossa
Stalberg-Bolland-Bickell
Frolik-Kruger-Shaw
13th forward

Keith-Seabrook
Leddy-Hjalmersson
Montador-Olsen
7th defenseman

Crawford
Salak

I'll take that team.

The only way I can see the Hawks acquiring Iginla is if Iginla really wanted to play for the Hawks to the extent the Hawks would be the only team he would waive his NTC to get traded to, and then only if Calgary were gracious enough to grant him his wish.

If it's more a case of wanting to be traded to one of a handful of legitimate contenders, then I think it would be unlikely that the Hawks would be able to offer the winning package without including a core player - which I hope they wouldn't do.

But, if Iginla wanted to be traded to the Hawks, I think it's likely the Hawks and Flames could find some package of (non-core) player/prospects/picks to make it work. Salary cap wouldn't be an issue this season and would only be a hindrance for 2012/13 - not a bad price to pay for an Iginla sized enhancement toward winning the Cup. None of the core players need to be resigned before Iginla's contract is up, so that's a non-issue also.

Regarding the bigger need - a 3/4 d-man acquisition - that shouldn't be a salary cap problem either. The Hawks should be able to afford a good rental with having less than half the season's salary going against the salary cap.

If StanBow can pull off a trading coup by getting Iginla and a 3/4 d-man it would go a long way toward silencing his critics - that's for sure.

GO DO IT Stan.

That is exactly what Stan should be packaging, if not for Iggy then for something else.

Unlike you, I dont base opinions off of stats. Also.....

ITS A FACT WE NEED ANOTHER D MAN

Ffs, open your eyes and look at our third pairing. It's not going to help at all when we get into the playoffs. Iginla can add his two-way play all he wants, i don't give a ****, we still another defenseman who can actually clear the crease for once.

Dont forget to factor in that Hawks would be on hook for 1 more year of Iggy at 7M cap hit at age 35

That is what would worry me about making trade for him

The Hawks could add another defenseman as well, he'd just have to have an expiring contract at the end of the year. You could easily fit say Iginla and Gleason on the team.

Valid concern but they have room. He'd still be a 70 point scorer with Sharp and Hossa on a line.

And you know this how?

35 yr olds have dropped dramatically in past ,, Iginla is already showing signs of decline

We won a cup with a third pairing of Sopel - Boynton. Montador - SOD is worlds better.

His slow start is habitual. Would put cash on him potting thirty by years end.

Iggy, imo, is the best veteran leader in the NHL. Calgary will not part with him easily and literally every team will show interest if Flames make him available. He would be a dream acquisition for the Hawks, even at his age, but it would take some fancy wheeling and dealing to get him without giving up several of our top prospects and draft picks. It would also jeopardize fulfilling arguably our greatest need, a solid 4 or 5 dman. If Stan could pull it off, it would be fantastic, but I am doubtful. That's why until now I have avoided this thread and a similar one opened not long ago.

We won a cup with Sopel-Hendry

Boynton really gets way too much credit for playing a couple games

Hendry > Boynton

how can anybody say that he won't be an upgrade and can't help us?

I don't think he is the guy we should go after, but he would help us. This would give us 3 of the Top10 RWs in the NHL

I love people acting like we'd be "stuck" with Iginla for another year. A perennial thirty goal scorer that excels at all areas of the game?! Damn! It'd be FURTHER reason to make a play for him.
