Komi should be the 8th dman on this team

other then being signed by Burke and made the assistant captain he shouldn't be playing

Developing players like Franson and Aulie should take precedence at this point

I'd rather see Crabb sit than Frattin

Please don't switch Franson over to his wrong side again, he has been great

Part of the attraction for me with these star player trades, we can also trim the size of the roster at the same time, which we desperately need to do. A good 3 for 1 trade is fine with me.

I'd keep Frattin in the lineup over Crabb. Frattin has played very well over the last 15-or-so games. Crabb, on the other hand, seems to have tapered off a bit since a great start. Detroit is too shifty a team to try to check into oblivion, so I'd use the faster option. Fight speed with speed.

I wish there was a resource for nightly faceoff stats. I have nothing but foggy memories to back it up, but Steckel seems to have really fallen off since his injury. He's not much use to us if he's not winning draws.

I'm not saying Frattin has been horrible, Crabbs just been better. He has sparked the Grabo line which Frattin was unable to do.
With Brown back, something has to give, and it's probably going to be Frattin for now. It's not a bad thing for Frattin to develop further in the AHL.

No, it isn't and in a numbers game the guy who can clear goes down. I get it, but your comment that he's tailed off lately, I would argue he's getting better and better. Seriously, he is a beast on the boards now, loving his game, that's playoff hockey style, it's great to watch.

frattin, holzer because aulie would be 7th d man with komi back. when liles returns. aulie gets sent down. wilson has decision to make on gardiner and franson when liles is back.

I forgot about Bozak completely..

I'd say Crabb goes, and Grabo or Bozak go to wing on that line. That's what I'd do unless there's a trade, but I'm assuming there isn't.

But then you factor Army in and it screws everything up.

I'd like to see Bozak traded. No knock against him, but as far as value goes now would be the time.

The lineup is pretty soft, so Armstrong helps pretty big when on the ice. How effective he can be with all his injury trouble though?

Komisarek gets trashed way too much. His a quality physical defensemen, but the Leafs have better and younger options. His contract off the cap too, big help.

/stating the obvious.

After everyone comes back, assuming there aren't anymore injuries, this is what the lineup will resemble IMO.

Lupul Connolly Kessel
MacArthur Grabo Kadri
Kulemin Bozak Armstrong
Lombari Steckel Brown

Gunnar Phaneuf
Franson Schenn
Liles Komisarek
(Gardiner can be inserted wherever)

Crabb has been great, so has Boyce. But to me Kadri is here to stay, he hasn't looked out of place defensively and we all know what he brings to the offense. The AHL will not hurt Frattin. He'll be here to stay soon.

I'd like to see something similar, but I'd rather have Kulemin and MacA switch spots and possibly Lombardi out so that Boyce could stay if he continues to help the PK. If not, then keep Lombardi there. And Gardiner should be switched with Franson, Gardiner-Schenn could be a great future pair for us, let them grow and learn from their mistakes together. Ideally I'd like to see Bozak + Komisarek traded to clear cap space and roster room.

Edit: A defence consisting of Gunnar-Phaneuf, Gardiner-Schenn, and Liles-Franson would be a defence consisting of all top 4 dmen in a few years. While I would like another top pairing Dman to go with Phaneuf, I don't know who I'd want to get rid of... Gunnar is most likely, but I like the consistency he brings. My guess is Liles is gone sometime soon due to his high current value and other PMD prospects in Gardiner and Blacker already in the system.

I just don't want to see Franson sit another game he has been my favourite d-man all year long and with a shot like his theres no way he can be siting in the hotdog box

In all seriousness, i think its time for Gardiner to either sit or be sent down.

Gardiner and Frattin being sent down would be consistent with Burke's player development strategy

Putting him back on the left and with Komi would really suck
Agreed. Komi's return will mess up the blueline pairings unless Franson sits, which would be a ridiculous move at this point.

Especially now, with Liles out... I don't think it would be a smart move to send down Gardiner. I'd rather Aulie be sent down, he's looked good the last 1 or 2 games... but then again, almost everybody has.

Gardiner doesn't deserve to be sent down. He has been better than Aulie and Komisarek all year.

I agree. Also fits in with the strategy..

This LD/RD issue is the real problem though, I think.

This infamous Burke "January Trade" is probably going to happen sooner than Burke is letting on. The right trade or trades is probably the best overall solution. Until then, some guys are gonna have to take one for the team. That's Hockey

glad to see brownie back, who sits well probably crabb but just my opinion (should be lombardi hes been less than stellar but we know merit wont come into it)

and komi coming back is well nothing to get excited about hes terrible and just takes up a nhl spot that someone else should have, cant waive him and hes never going to get traded

I don't know why Komisarek should be slotted in against the Wings. It's his 1st game back in a while and Komisarek will likely have trouble keeping up with their speed. But if someone has to come out for him, it would be Aulie with him or Holzer being sent down.

Frattin makes the most sense for Brown. I would like to see him stay up but I don't think it could hurt to go down to the AHL and get tons of ice time to improve your game.

Aulie did not look good when he first came up but he's started to look better and is making progress. Exactly why he should still be on the team and continue to play.

But he'll be the one sent down

Komi looked good too before he got injured.

Schenn? Seriously? lol
