TBH i forgot about liles at one point till PP talk comes up.

If you've noticed anything in the leaf games where Kadri played in this season you would have seen that not a single goal was scored by opposing team while he was on the ice. He is also a +5.

Schenn and aulie aren't the same comparison also really, both are defensive defensmen but schenn has a pretty underrated first pass and offense in him compared to aulie.
It's quite simple, really. If other players were given 20-30 game stretches to get back the bare minimum level that's expected from them (in some cases even more), I don't see why it's surprising/disappointing that Aulie may get more than a few games in the NHL to show that he's capable to contrubute to the team in his sophomore season.

want to hear options here.
Lets say we are all healthy.
Who sits?

[Lupul]-[Connolly] or Bozak-[Kessel]
Crabb or Kadri-[Grabovski]-[Kulemin]
[MacArthur]-Bozak or Lombardi-Armstrong or Kadri or Crabb
Brown or Rosehill-Steckel or Bozak or Lombardi-Boyce or Crabb or Armstrong

[Gunnarsson]-[Phaneuf]
Gardiner-[Schenn]
[Liles]-Komisarek/Franson/Aulie

[are the likely locks to be in the lineup]

I assume there will be a trade. And more than likely someone will go down with a injury (hope not) . But it is good to have depth in that regard.

He has had 15 games in the marlies and 10 with us buddy and he still hasn't picked it up. He has had his chances as well.

Regardless he is a very young defensemen so he will have more than enough chance to where we want him to be, after he is only 22.

The Lombardi acquisition mistake in the first place is costing Matt Frattin a roster spot at present and that is a shame.

I'd give Aulie a couple years to get better like they have another young defenseman on the team who still struggles out there.

After the draft does it matter where an asset was acquired?

Right:
Komisarek, Schenn, Phaneuf, Franson

Left:
Gunnarsson, Gardiner, Aulie, Liles

We've seen the experiments with moving these guys to other sides of the ice without much success.

It might be a good idea to experiment again against the Wings tonight.

Thought Lombardi was centering our 3rd line?

I could see something like this unless there is a trade.

Lupul - Connolly - Kessel
MacArthur - Grabovski - Kulemin
Kadri - Bozak - Armstrong
Boyce - Steckel - Brown

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf
Liles - Schenn
Franson - Komisarek

No way is that acquistion a mistake at all. Lambo is a seasoned vet and while I love Frattin and think he should have been sent down, he is young still and time to gain some confidence while tearing it up in the AHL with Mr Joe Colborne is ok by me.

Everyone knows a trade has to be coming you can only send so many guys back to the Marlies b4 half the guys dont play consistently because of the log jam that would happen if too many players were sent down.

So the solution is trade---but only if it makes us better. I dont know why some say that itd be too expensive for Ryan, or Getzlaf. It would be a high price, but we need Mr Right now ! Not Mr. 2 yrs from now ! A buddy told me we have our own Getzlaf in the making in Colborne....that maybe somewhat true BUT he wont be at Getzlaf level until at least next year or the year after.

As well Burke knows we cant miss the playoffs, and just squeaking in is something he said he doesnt want....or he would have made several deadline trades last year. Getz, and Ryans stock is at an all-time low and I doubt they will come this cheap ever again. The timing is all but too perfect ! We have our injured guys coming back creating a log jam up in the NHL and the Marlies roster is all but full as well. Burke spent the first 2 yrs over-hauling and acquiring decent NHLers and amazing prospects. We have never been so deep, and when a team is this deep, you can afford to make a trade from the position of depth which for us is at every position. We have too many centers, too many wingers and too many dfenceman. Take your pick we can afford to let them go. The only locks for sure right now are; Kessel, Lupul, Phaneuf and Gardiner....which may make Schenn expendable but Id hate to see him go !

I want to make something clear to the rest of you as well ! Burke is not going to trade our entire team to get anyone, and I mean anyone even for OV he wouldnt do that. It isnt worth blowing up our team for one guy BUT with the right combo of NHL/prospects we could easily get Getz Ryan Perry Staal Nash Carter. We have such amazing depth. If you package any of the right guys together anything is possible.

So for ANA they want to build for next year but yet not rebuild. So I would think they would want a couple decent NHLers and a high end prospect that would do it.

Even without Lombardi, I would be looking to find a replacement for Frattin. He has speed but really hasn't been as impressive as some people imply, imo. He could use the time in the minors. Burke would send him down anyway as that is how he develops players.

Lombardi mistake?

I don't even know what to say about that....

Excited to see Brown and Komi back in the lineup tonight. Leafs get some grit back.

edit: Read grit, not goons.

At least I'll have someone else to look out for when I go to the Marlies/Ice Caps game on Tuesday and Wednesday, that is assuming his callup this time isn't as soon as when he got called up last time he was sent down

I find it interesting that our PK has improved since Lombardi has been back. We have too many NHL forwards in the organization. That's not a bad problem to have going into the trade deadline.

Frattin does the little things well, hopefully some time in the A will help him find his scoring touch.
