The only center depth in Hershey that you have is Keith Aucoin, Ryan Potulny, and Christian Hanson

Moving those guys by themselves doesn't make sense to me. They perform pretty well and consistently for what they're paid, unlike a lot of our (far) more expensive players. I can sort of see it if Erskine really can't hack it in man-to-man.. but even so, he's one of the very few guys that we have that are genuinely tough and actually step up in the playoffs..

It's tough to watch the team sort of flailing around with no sense of direction. Hard to imagine that they'll get anywhere with continued small-scale tinkering.. but that's probably what's in store. So just gonna repeat two things to myself:
1. Orlov has developed pretty good.. yay.
2. Puncher's chance!

This was also reported by Steven Hindle on his twitter. He thinks the move of Halpern suggests something bigger. He also thinks Sarge is part of the deal too

schultz and halpern dont add up to anything big.

i can believe that bowman and mcphee might be working on something, but i cant imagine the value in trading halpern.

I agree too. The rumors of Chicago and Wsh talking about sarge have been going on for a week and now there has been a credible writer talking about and sarge not being on during the morning skate, seems like there is too much for it to not happen. However, Halpern doesn't make sense but maybe McPhee is getting someone bigger to fill the #2 center role

Conversely, Sarge always looked nervous to me in the playoffs.

Erskine and Halpern are close to the least of our problems.

Just like in money all. Traded his all star rookie 1st baseman so this random important character who had a good on base percentage in the minors could play.

IIRC, he said the Caps weren't "shopping" Schultz.

I took it to mean he didn't hear anything about the Caps shopping Schultz.

Well, scratch Beauchemin off any lists.

Inked a 3 year extension in Anaheim ($3.5M per)

Shultz+Halpern? The $ is about right for Bolland.

Damn, that's ridiculously affordable considering what guys have been signing for recently. Beauch could've easily gotten another million per on July 1. I guess he really likes it there.

So, what you're saying is... you're converting to a Bruins fan so you can go brag about their shots and other stats in their GDTs...?

Edmonton Journal - same day BMac said he weren't actively shopping Sarge. Someone is wrong.

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/sport...766/story.html

Quote:
The Washington Capitals are looking to move Jeff Schultz, a sturdy blue-liner but with semi-slow feet. Schultz has been a healthy scratch pretty much since Dale Hunter went behind the Washington bench (14 scratches out of 20), and they like Russian Dimitry Orlov better. The six-foot-six Schultz has two years left at $2.75 million per season, hardly a mouthful. He’s only 25. He’s a gentle giant; hardly any penalty minutes, like a Hal Gill.

the somebody that is wrong is probably this EJ writer. McKenzie said, iirc, that he had not heard anything about Schultz being shopped. This guy doesnt say he has heard anything either.

He also writes, "Are the Washington Capitals thinking Mike Green might have the same groin problems that derailed teammate Tom Poti’s career? Is there no surgery to fix Green’s ongoing situation?"

So....Bmac tries really hard not to be wrong. i tend to believe him.

btw...he also writes that schultz is like hall gill. would you agree with that?

The idea of trading with Chicago is interesting. Chicago is gunning for a cup. They're not going to send us pieces that are going to help us win anytime soon.

I guess when dumping a non-factor like Schultz, the return doesn't matter, but a bigger trade for futures...that would say a lot.

I think it will be hard for McPhee to sell Ted on selling and keep his job. I think they should absolutely be sellers if Backstrom's situation doesn't change significantly and quickly, but the probable fact that McPhee is fighting for his job at this point is a variable that may prevent that. It sucks. I hope he doesn't do something in panic, lose his job anyway, and handcuff the next GM.

Ted: Why are we selling

GMGM: We're missing a top 5 center in the league and its best offensive defenseman. Also this draft is awesome and I'm a genius at drafting. If we do this we can compete for the next 10 years. Branding synergy refactoring leverage paradigm shift.

Ted: I don't know...

GMGM: MISSION CRITICAL FRAMEWORK DELIVERABLES CLOUD ENTERPRISE CONTENT MANAGEMENT

Ted: ok ok I'm in.
