I just noticed that Alyonka Larionov, a daughter of Soviet great Igor Larionov is advertising this article on twitter. I am sure that she can have a choice to raise her own opinion but I find it politically incorrect for her to do that. While Russia has long ways ahead to become a civilized country KHL is actually an organization that is at least trying to make things better. In three years they did a lot of good things, specially for young kids who at least can be taken away from the streets and drugs with its newly organized MHL league. KHL is forcing the teams to have new arenas, which creates jobs at the end of the day. Sure, these are small or even tiny steps, but if people will not do them we will never see a better Russia. This road of criticising everything and everybody is a road to nowhere, specially for those who really care about Russia and Russian hockey.
Surprised and disappointing about her choice to do that. But people will believe whatever they want, we know the real truth though .
If anything, KHL is gaining attention if people feel the need to insult it's existence- in a way, they see it as a 'threat'. No one ever talked about RSL before, because it wasn't anything serious...

No-one talked about RSL because RSL didn't declare that they are competing with NHL.
But seriously, KHL has come leaps and bounds since its inception, though the league shouldn't get complacent and keep working to eliminate all those issues mentioned in the article.

Exactly, because KHL actually has legitimate grounds for its ambitions. RSL couldn't dream of it.
I don't think it's a secret that Vityaz owners are not quiet citizens. Heard rumours that they had incidents with players previously.

The entire article is a load of **** would not surprise me Rick Westhead is a known Russophobe. he and many other Russophobes are picked apart by Russian bloggers for fun while the people in the West simply eat it all up. If there’s one thing we know about the Western media in its reaction to anything Russia and Putin do, it’s that it has no imagination to imagine anything other than a new Cold War.
It's not full of bs, there are some well-known things. It's written in a biased style though.
I guess the author of the article Rick Westhead is a guy who likes to report rumours as facts. Today his credibility went down as Russians say below the baseboards when he reported that Harper will play hockey against Putin and Harper's spokesman said it is not true. Rick very quickly put together another piece, read here http://www.thestar.com/news/article/...match-pmo?bn=1

I read first 3 paragraphs.. the worst article about what is NOT going to happen.
Toronto Star can be a good paper (unlike Toronto Sun), but they have these brain farts once in a while.
my budy a sraptak fan has posted this article on their web-forum with some of my translations, as a result, Benoit has been severely scolded and this pahetic-yellow journalist will not be allowed into the dressing room ever again, apparently he is known to spartak's employees as he's had another yellow article about Kabanov as well.
Funny thing - Benoit had a point in his contract no to critisize the league or something of that nature, that is too funny, lol.
Ha, apparently this guy is Toronto Star's KHL specialist. He likes to talk about Nikolai a lot. This was not the first story about this Nikolai, "gun slinging owner of Vityaz" that nobody knows last name of. Here is an article from 3 years ago http://www.thestar.com/Sports/Hockey/article/553708 And get this, this is the same guy who made Kirill Kabanov to say bad things about Russian hockey for which just recently Kabanov publicly apologized for. You can literally say that Rick Westhead destroyed Kirill Kabanov's hockey career in Russia. http://www.thestar.com/sports/article/554295
Did some more research on this Nikolai. His last name is Pavlinov and he has been very close with the club since a long time. In many Russian online sources he is referred as an owner of the club even though the official website says that HC Vityaz is a municipal organisation http://www.hcvityaz.ru/2009-07-30-08-31-43/history.html
It depends what team tbh. But the part about the owners being violent, yes I do believe most owners are apart of the Mob or somewhat involved with it lol.

That shows how poor of a journalist this guy is. You found out the full name of this Nikolai fellow in a short time, while the Star writer mentions him in articles going back several years, and never bothered to learn his full name, or the ownership situation of Vityaz.

On the other hand she (like I) may come form the school of thought where the more public exposure you give to these failings, the quicker they are corrected. Pretending there are no problems or that things are normal while they're quietly swept under the rug is not the right way to handle these matters.

I agree with this school of thought, and Larry's daughter may have had different intentions, unlike this pathetic journalist.
btw, do u know u made the biggest russians sports-paper with your comments about the WJC final?
I don't remember, they had a few comments, it was actually after the semi-final with Canada about the refereing in the third period, different POV's yours were there.

I think I mainly commented about Jyri Rönn and how his "refereeing skills" shouldn't come as a surprise to the Russians since he works at KHL this season. Possibly along that line?

Jussi (Финляндия): "Ренна не должны утверждать арбитром вообще нигде и никогда. В течение многих лет его ненавидели все в финской лиге. Теперь он работает в КХЛ, и в России уже должны были оценить его "уровень".
Language is a problem? study it, you come to a foreign country to make a phat pay check, learn the language!
Learning English is not really the same thing as learning Russian since English is a much more international language and thus more use outside of hockey. I would be surprised if Kovalev or Markov learned much French while playing for the Habs....
edit:
Markov has played in Quebec for 12 years and admits that he hasn't learned to speak French.

is french only one official NHL language? I dont think so. Russian is official language of KHL, so player should learn it. Basically, there is now difference among learning english (russian) and russian (american, canadian)

I thought the KHL was transitioning towards using English as their language of business. It is only a natural progression if the KHL wants to become an international league that rivals the NHL.
