Dude, english in russia will NOT help attract foreign player. Sorry. I know two players personnally that plays in Russia, One of the is André Benoit. Both of them when for the $$$..
Most of your post is dribble that I won't bother replying to but you couldn't be more wrong about your first statement. Language is certainly not the main issue, and for some players it may not be an issue at all. To date the KHL has only attracted borderline AHL players from NA, and I believe most North Americans playing in Europe are still in leagues outside of the KHL so yes the KHL is very much competing for players just like any other league.
few month is more then enough to learn the basics and while his wife sitting at home on her butt, to turn the tv on and hire a teacher.
That is what I would do, but you have to admit that the usefulness of knowing the language outside of hockey has to be a motivating factor. Just as Markov hasn't learned French, not every player is going to be motivated to learn the language of the city they play for if they can get by with English.
Dude, wheter you are oblivious to the KHL or plain stupid...
KHL has only attract borderline AHL playe?!?!? WHAT? Many NA are borderline NHL not AHL. Dallman, Dawes, Platt, Boyd, Simon, Sopel, Bochenski and Vesce are more than borderline AHL players. They were top AHL players and borderline NHL players. There are 35 NA players in the KHL. Most of them had some experience in NHL. Borderline AHL players rarely play in NHL.
You are right that NAs play in other european league, but or a fraction of what KHL NA players make. Tha is called skill level. If you can make 200 000$ playing in the Swiss league it awesome. Cost of living in Swizterland is wayyyyy more than Russia and I'm not sure if they have to pay tax on income. NA guys in Russia make over 400 000$ tax free. Platt make close to 1M. Don't compare european league to KHL...

and I think you would agree that the standard of living in Switzerland, Finland, Germany, Sweden, etc is way way higher than it is in Russia right now and that this is a factor players would consider, especially those with families.

Stop making a fool out of yourself
If a guy like Dallman, who wasn't good enough to even hold down a job in the NHL can come over and be arguably the best player in the league then I'm quite sure there are lots more AHLers who are good enough to make the KHL.

Thanks for proving my point! What you are saying is exactly what the KHL is for NA guys... fringe NHL players.
Some day you will become less stupid (because I find it hard to beleive you could be smarter!) and do fact finding before posting.

The KHL is what it is. Now that there are more foreign players it is pretty easy to see that the skill level there is more or less equivalent to the AHL. The top 30 scoring list is riddled with names who came to the KHL because they were not able to make an NHL team. I imagine that the salaries for the KHL 3rd and 4th line players aren't enough to attract most North Americans yet.
How do you know he hasn't? If you actually read the article in the OP you would see that Benoit was attacked by the Russian posters in this thread because his wife said she had found it hard living there and not being able to speak Russian. Again they have only been there a few months!!
On a side note I think it would help teams in Russia attract foreign players if the local people actually spoke some of the international language of business and tourism, as they do in most of the rest of Europe, but let's face it that isn't going to happen any time soon.
you sicken me.
what are you doing in this section of the forums?
not only do you come here to insult the league but also to downplay the Russian language and the importance of it!?
what is wrong with you; "That is good, a bit behind the rest of most of Europe, but better late than never. " you sound like you mean to say that the Americanization of Russia and Europe is a factor that is positive to the country. Not only are you uncultured, but also you buy into the bu||**** hegemony of American society.
I dont particularly care about the French thing. Personally, I grew up in Ottawa. Here specifically French people come and unceremoniously demand everything to be ready in French for their utmost convenience as it is one of the official language. If you are not from a small town you would know how Quebecers behave with regard to English, and not giving a damn about it since it is an official language. I go to Quebec on a frequent basis and can assure you that the level of English is higher in many European countries than amongst Quebecers. Markov learning English is more than sufficient to work in Canada and the NHL. McGill university in the heart of downtown Montreal is exclusively English, and they go about their business just fine.
As for your comment in the quote, get out of the cave and mentality of your narrow world bud. The Russian language is diverse and rich. If you didnt know(obviously not) it is the 5th most popular in the world with almost 300million speaker, it is an official Language of dozens of countries and international organizations. FFS it is an official language of the United Nations. In that part of the world knowing Russian is important.
Im not even going to begin by talking about your 'evaluation' of the level of the KHL, but it really frustrates me when people like you come on and drop their 'wisdom' about the world and criticize Russian(European) players in NA, downplay and demean the Russian league, and then hypocritically defend NA's playing in Europe... Seriously if you had some self-analysis and unbiased impartiality you wouldnt talk the way you do.

I am here because once again Canadians were unjustifiably attacked. I didn't start this, but I am happy to stick around to the finish.
I am a big believer that now more than ever the world needs a common language to allow us to communicate with each more effectively. Not to say that we should get rid of all the rich and diverse languages of the world (which btw includes a lot more than just Russian), but we should strive towards having a common second language. This either means that you have to create a new language or choose an existing one. Right now the choice is pretty clearly English. I didn't pick it, but the fact that I speak it as my first language should have no relevance within the context of this conversation.
Not much worth responding to in the rest of your thread. How dare a francophone ask for French services in Ottawa. Please provide evidence for the accusations in your last paragraph.

OMG!!! You sir, are an idiot!!!!!!
The most spoken language is the world... not english buddy...is Mandarin. So if the world would have 1 language, but the process of elimination, everyone should learn to speak Mandarin.
Dude, have you ever been in the Ottawa Region?!?!? lol Living in Ottawa (well across the River) and growing up in eastern Ontarion, 30 min from Ottawa, the French Language is very much alive, espcially in the east end of the city. 15% of resident have french as their 1st language and almost 40% can speak it...pretty significant to me. And if you go a bit east of the towns, like Embrun, Casselman and Hawkesbury, we are talking 70% french population.
Also, working as a Federal employee, I can guarantee you, if you are unilingual in Ottawa, you are pretty much *******. Many of the good jobs in the Public Service in Ottawa are staffed by french person.
Lastly, I don't think André needs you to defend him (who by the way is a Franco ontariens!!!!!!) André Benoit. And yeah you didn't start this... this stupid reporter did...

I was being facetious when I commented on francophones receiving services in french in Ottawa, I guess that one went right over your head.
If you are too dense to differentiate between the language with the most primary speakers (Mandarin) and the language with the most secondary speakers (English) and which one is used primarily as the international language of trade and tourism then I don't really think you are ready to debate me. I would call you an idiot back but I think your post speaks for itself.

learn russian when you want to speak russians. Learn french when you want to speak frenchman. Learn chinese when you want to speak chinise people. What is problem? I personally learn russian to be able to understand russians, KHL. If I live in Quebeck I would learn french, no problem. You should not think that everyone should learn english because you want.
btw level of english of people from Quebeck I know is poor, very poor.

I think it is safe to say that you have completely missed the point.
When you guys stop slandering my people I'll stop, but I have a feeling I am going to have to be around for a while this time.
You are the one who has some freak obsession with the country I live in. You are the one who has always painted Russia to be some uncivilized barbaric country. Fact is you know NOTHING about Russia as YOU do not live in Russia. You blame Russian people for not knowing English because some foreign sportsman experienced a culture shock?
If you go to a country to work/live learn a language that will allow you to communicate with your colleagues. SIMPLE. Russia has over 100 languages but Russian is the primary language.
Russia is filled with foreigners(50% of the league) in the Russian Football League most do not learn a word of Russian and get along fine the majority have a personal translator who goes with them wherever they need to go if needed, if you go to another country and plan on living there you have to embrace it with an open view. It is not all about knowing the language. If it was you would not have foreign sportsmen playing in Russian football leagues for 5 years. Just like Russian hockey players who come to the NHL and have a culture shock and return to Russia you would also have North Americans experiencing a culture shock coming to Russia. The mentality is different.
No need to **** on Russia it has enough idiots who left in the 90's and form expert opinions on a country they no longer live in.

here goes another end of the spector, these so called "idiots" are prominent scientists, best university professors and people who have achieved quite a lot in the previous "russian" chapter of their life, as well as many of them in the current "american/european" life. The fact that you sit in Moscow - a fungi on Russia's body, full of managers, snobs and thiefs and don't see how the life in REAL rest of the country is gives you no right to judge people who do and have seen it. Has it ever occured to you, why you bridges are shattering, rockets are falling like meteor shower, ships are sinking and subs are burning without the idiots?

Lol Cska, Vostok, come on, that's pretty harsh from both of you. That stuff is behind us, same as Soviet ex-NHLers who fled Russia. Can't we all just get along?

I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I don't have anything against Russia, rather my issue is with the Russian fans on these boards who think they can bash Canada with impunity.

So do you live in Russia now? of course not you sit in America "a country full of managers, snobs and thiefs" on another continent and think you have a more valid opinion to discuss Russia because of things you read on the internet? I know Moscow is not Russia heck even the political views in Moscow are different to the entire country(Moscow predominantly supports the communist party)
First of all my family escaped that rubbish called the Soviet Union and I actually was educated in the West. I have worked and lived in Russia for the past 6 years on many Infrastructure projects across Russia. I have seen the real Russia not something you will see or ever understand living in America. The country has progressed in unimaginable levels in the past 10 years. It still needs to continue progressing as it seems to be heading for a good future.
