John Lu:

#Habs Cunneyworth says Gomez's role when he returns is suited for Top 6, but he will have to earn his icetime. Gomez has yet to be cleared.

Good. Let him earn it.

Yes, for lack of another choice.

Maybe Cunneyworth can do what Martin couldn't.

Burying him would be dangerous, because if we need to pull him back, and he gets taken, 3.65 millions lost on the salary cap.

Tough question. I'd probably bring him in slowly in the line-up (4th line role instead of Campoli on the wing). Maybe powerplay later on? But Eller's line cannot be touched, as well as Desharnais' line with Pacioretty and Cole. I want him to play well, but so many doubts.

Yes I hope he shows he can contribute to a winning NHL team. Then maybe we can trade him. Ditto Kaberle.

To be fair to Gomez, I don't know how much worse than Gionta and Cammalleri he can be.

Gio and Cammy at least have 8 and 9 goals respectively, Gomez will be lucky to score 8 goals the rest of his NHL career.

Randy needs to win in order to get a full-time job here, unlike Martin who was afraid to bench the veterans Randy knows that his best chances of winning will be to play the young guys like Desharnais and Eller who have stepped up... glad we have a coach who won't put up with Gomez doing nothing and still give him top 2 line minutes with PP time.

As long as he's under contract I'm willing to give him another chance. After that I'd prefer not to

Gomez is better than Nokeleinen. He's being paid and using cap space... may as well contribute something to the fourth line.

Don't the statistics speak for themselves? He plays like a little old lady that knows how to skate.

As long as he plays on the wing, I have no problem with that. He just cannot take DD, Eller or Plek's spot at this point. Or he can be the 4th C.

What? We won't have to see him lose the puck over and over again and free up valuable cap space and roster spot for someone better.

With all the surprises of the oreille back and the wave maybe he'll wear number 91 again and play better

Only if you look at only one, suprisingly uninformative, number.

And people says I'm blinded by stats.

And which number would that be?

Because his points, goals and +/- from this season and last season all point to the same direction.

His even-strength scoring.

+/- is only a side effect of that. His minuses were fine, it's just that he didn't have any plusses to make up for them.

With a new coach, this is the perfect time to give Gomez a new chance.

At the end of the day, unless he suddenly turns into Adam Oates and goes 10-35-45, I think he should be moved in the summer.

With Eller stepping up as of late, the writing has to be on the wall for Gomez. He is in a situation where he has to succeed or simply not play or get sent down. I wish he leaves the team, along with Gionta and Weber and Campoli. We have started to move in the right way, we have 2 solid forward lines and the guys that are not performing are slated to be top 6 vets that would be cut from any top 10 team in this league. Playoffs or not, it is time to change.

I really don't see who you can remove from the top 3 lines for him, if he takes the spot of Eller or Desharnais, I will know at that point Habs management group is clueless.

There is also a part of me who would like to see Gomez, Camm and Gionta play together and kept that way until they get their acts together. Call it the 20 million dollar line.

agreed, eller is proving himself, and if you give him less ice time, that will really suck, and make him feel like crap, as the 7.5 mill short dude that gets no points is back?

No he doesn't deserve a second chance as he's already had that. Nor does he deserve a third, fourth etc.

He's garbage.
