Hard to believe he's a Harvard guy.

I've laughed harder at Tripp Tracy's twitter just now than I have in the last 3 or 4 days.

Tripp's tweets are so true to form that it almost seems like a parody account. I thought his on air schtick might have been just that.... it's the real deal folks.

So the Staals are hosting dinner for Ladd and Flood, I'm waiting for tweet where Tripp tells us what was on the menu. Although maybe he'll save that for the broadcast tomorrow.

I'm waiting for the point where he discusses if it was a dish with pears involved. If it was....

Pretty focused skate by the Jets today. A little more than the home team.
Good or bad?

Interesting stat by Boomer on NHL Home Ice.... "new" NHL is dead

Teams leading after 2 periods are 470-30-49. 6 of the 30 losses are by Columbus. Maybe comebacks just arent possible anymore, like pre-lockout, and some GMs want to put the redline back in.

Stat is a bit misleading, because it doesn't tell us how many games the team leading Won in overtime.

If wins in OT is about the same as losses in overtime, then the team behind ties the game or takes the lead ny the end of regulation a little less than 1 in 3 times. That's not that rare.

This table
corroborates the leading after 2 record, so I feel good using it for trailing after 2: teams trailing after 2 are a combined 79-428-42. So 22% of the time, a trailing team has tied or won by the end of regulation.

Well, I've looked at the schedule of 16 teams (Anaheim to Nashville) since the lockout. That's 6 years, 82 games of 16 teams or 7872 games. Of that amount, only 138 times has a team come back to win the game after being down 2 goals or more in the 3rd period.

Does anyone understand what would cause a GM to want to reinstate the red line? I'm assuming then that would mean two-line passes would become illegal again...

Mostly a safety issue, as you can build up much more speed without the red line.

True. Although, if the point of the safety issue lies in the rash of concussions, I would opine that speed isn't really the issue.

The two-line pass rule really sucked...

It gives some interesting context to previous discussions about how good the Canes are while leading after 2 period....and our inability to score enough to come back once trailing. It turns out every team but CBUS is good while leading after 2 and it turns out noone really has the ability to get the job done in the third while trying to comeback.

Well, it's a debatable point but they is why it will be considered in the next GM meeting. Agree with you about the old two-line pass restrictions.

That actually seems perfectly normal to me.

If the score is tied after 2, the chances of either team winning are 50%, right?

So when you get behind after two periods, your chances drop by about half. And that number includes multi-goal leads.

This is ESPN's writeup of the Canes for yesterday's new edition of the NHL power rankings. All sorts of fail in this...

Quote:
Rank: 27
Carolina
17-24-9
Last Week: 26
Carolina is 3-1-2 in its last five while starting to show much better team defense. The sell-off has begun, though, with the trade of Alexei Ponikarovsky to New Jersey over the weekend. More veterans will surely follow.
Apparently, not only have we been WORSE in the last week than in the rest of the season such that we would FALL in the rankings from 26 to 27, but also players like Alex Ponikarovsky were the key to our recent success. That, plus the fact that apparently 3 + 1 + 2 = 5, and this writeup is Facebook worthy.
