Defensemen - Potential "Steals Of The Draft"

I see there was a thread like this already started for forwards, so lets do the Dmen here........

My choice is Shea Theodore. If he goes late 1st/early 2nd, he will be a complete steal.

another choice is Eric Roy on Brandon Wheatkings.. I think he will be unreal in a couple years

Ian McCoshen, Kyle Burroughs, Mackenzie Weegar, Amil Krupic all look like pretty good candidates to me

I think there are quite a few candidates in this area from the WHL.

Offensive:

Theodore
Corbett
Lees
Erkamps
Gow
King

Defensive:

Heatherington
Geertsen
Jensen
Doetzel

I thought for some reason he was a 2014 elible. In that case, definitely add him to my list

Chris Bigras, he is so smart, great hockey iq, he is simply good at everything. Might not have #1 upside, but will be a very good 2nd pairing or #2 dmen in the NHL.

Someone earlier said Amil Krupic. I have to agree. Considering that he has good size, is one of the youngest players in the draft and put up such good numbers, it is suprising he is just a late round pick on every list out there.

for where he will likely get picked, Will Butcher should fit the bill.

and though he will still go very high, the way Ryan Pulock is dropping amazes me..kid will make a lot of gm's look like idiots if he goes outside the top 12.

I say the same for Josh Morrissey if he goes past 15 someone is getting a steal

The best part about Lees is that he's pretty solid defensively too.

I agree with every player on this list and I don't think I can add many more names except for Betker, But I added one from the BCHL.

In 4-5 years Josh Morrissey will be a clone of Kevin Shattenkirk.

Alex Coulombe, Carl Dahlstrom. Mentioned before, but whoever gets Bigras is set.

Yea, I like Morrissey. He's trending upwards. Has taken big strides both offensively and defensively this season, and has the intelligence/skillset to become a solid NHLer.

Granted if he goes in the 10-15 range, its hard to call him a "steal".

We have a boatload of smallish(under 6'0) PMD in Bridgeport, so he was sort of the odd man out.

Personally I think he should have been assigned to the AHL

I've heard that it was Kichton who didn't want to sign. Not sure if it's true or not, but the reasoning could make sense considering how much competition they have in their current system.

Yup Bigras is my vote as well with Gustav Olofsson from Green Bay. I would add that Hagg isn't a steal by any means with him going in the 1st round, but I think he can develop into a very solid player that could rise his draft ranking by 10 or so slots when we look at this draft a couple years from now.

Pulock is going to go anywhere from 10th to 40th, too much uncertainty where teams and scouts are ranking him. I do not think he will be a "huge" steal if he is picked in the 20s or 30s.

with the Hawks likely looking for defense or a big power winger with our first round pick, I wouldnt mind either of those two if still on the board at #29 or 30.

One name that comes to mind is Tyler Lewington. Average size for a D-Man but he's pretty physical and not afraid to drop the gloves. And for a guy who's seen as more of a bruising defenseman he can move the puck pretty well. I really think he could be a steal in later rounds.
