Quote:
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - As part of the 2012 Winter Classic festivities, the Penn State men's hockey team will head outdoors to Citizens Bank Park - home of Major League Baseball's Philadelphia Phillies - on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 to face off against NCAA DIII Neumann University. Opening faceoff is scheduled at 8 p.m.

In its last year competing at the club level, Penn State (13-1-0) is the top-ranked team in the American Collegiate Hockey Association and will face a Neumann squad (5-3-0) that is ranked No. 15 in the USCHO.com Division III poll.

"As Penn State becomes a Division I Hockey school, what better way to make a statement than to compete on the largest stage in the State of Pennsylvania when they face off against Neumann University at Citizens Bank Park," said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko. "There are a tremendous number of Penn State alumni living in the Greater Philadelphia Region who are looking forward to this game. We are thrilled to host this game as part of a week-long celebration of hockey in Philadelphia. It will be great for the City and great for the school. We're really looking forward to welcoming Penn State Division I hockey to Philadelphia."

It is an historic and proud day for the Adirondack Phantoms who have announced they will host and play their first ever outdoor game in franchise history. The Phantoms will be part of the NHL Winter Classic week-long celebration of hockey when they play the Hershey Bears at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA, on Friday, January 6.

"This is an extremely exciting day for the Phantoms organization and Phantoms fans everywhere," said Phantoms President Rob Brooks. "A hockey celebration and atmosphere unlike anything the AHL has ever seen will happen at Citizens Bank Park. We are extremely grateful to (Comcast Spectacor President) Peter Luukko for helping make this truly great event a reality."

It was also announced that the Philadelphia Flyers will play the New York Rangers in the NHL's annual Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park on Monday, January 2. This is the fifth NHL Winter Classic but the first ever to also feature an AHL outdoor game as part of the festivities.

"The American Hockey League has a strong following in the region and it will be a terrific experience for Pennsylvania hockey fans as the historic Phantoms-Bears rivalry is renewed outdoors at Citizens Bank Park," said David Andrews, AHL President and Chief Executive Officer.

"We are thrilled to join with the Philadelphia Flyers in adding AHL hockey to their outdoor showcase."

The Phantoms and Bears will also wear specially designed jerseys honoring the significance of the Outdoor Classic, similar to the fantastic jerseys the NHL teams have worn in their Winter Classic games.

2nd goal by Rupp should have never happend: Leaky Bob
3rd goal :Blame G and Hartnell as they left B. Richards wide oepn

We should have won 3-2.

Our D was TERRIBLE for the last half of the third period. It took us 3 minutes (from 8 to go-5 to go) to get the puck in and contain in the Rangers' zone.

Im sooo glad I didn't drop over a grand to go down and watch the game live.

As pointed out multiple times by NBC, Jagr was dying to play and even got ready to go out at one point but Lavi wouldn't put him out there.

Probably going to be covered up by saying he was a little injured

With how we were playing, we couldn't have scored even on a 6 on 3.

Are you guys serious? That was pathetic. I am completely embarrassed to be a Hockey fan right now. Take off your orange coloured glasses, the league did everything they could to get that game to OT.

Penalty shot? Off setting diving call? no call on Kimmo breakaway hook?

Disgraceful
You're too negative. Maybe you are depressed. The calls by the referees were legitimate. If you close your hand on the puck in the crease, then the other team gets a penalty shot. If you grab a players stick with your hand, even if he is hooking you, then you get called for holding the stick. There was no diving call. Timonen got 2 minutes for hooking. Callahan got 2 minutes for holding Timonen's stick to emphasize the hook. I don't know what game you watched. Just try to enjoy hockey instead of being a negative hipster who has to turn everything into a ****fest.

I think today's slight over-reaction is just years of constant disappointment boiling over. We always seem to lose it when it matters, and that's the biggest game we'll play all season.

Rangers didn't deserve it, but that's the sign of a decent team. That and Lundqvist.

Really both of rupps goals were soft. but it happens. no surprise that we need better defense and goaltending. we've got over a half a season to figure it out. No worries. if there's one thing I'm confident in with this team is that they'll do the right thing to make the team better.

"Covered up?" Is there any evidence to suggest it was anything other than that?

I assume he tweaked something (groin?). He believed he could play, but the coaches, realizing the colder-than-usual temperatures and weird ice, decided to take a more cautious approach.

remember the rangers sucked for a lot of years before this season. so they can't talk to much smack. they organization isn't in the same stratosphere as the flyers over the last decade.

Totally agree, but Hartnell isn't supposed to cover down low. That's absolutely Giroux' job.
I don't quite remember who got outworked by Dubinsky in front of the net, if that was Hartnell, than yes, it's his fault too.

The goaltending issue aside. We need to go out and sign a solid D man. With Pronger out indefinitely we aren't deep and Carle needs some help.

What is it with this team & their lackadaisical approach to Penalty Shots & Shootouts? I know Talbot & Read both converted earlier this year, but come on...that was pathetic

It's the idea we can't ****ing win AT ALL against someone in our division. Lost 3 times in a row, all of them hurt. This one probably hurt more since it was in Philly, outside, and got scored on twice by someone who did a Nazi salute...
