You don't know what the ref said to them both, he might have warned them not to drop the gloves. Plus it didn't look to me like Weise was looking to have anyone save him, he looked like he was backing away from an incident...just because Thornton is jacked to lay a beating on Weise doesn't mean Weise has to take a pummelling. Thornton was undisciplined in my opinion. Don't try to dance with a partner unless you know they are going to dance.

Makes me miss Rypien (RIP)... but Thornton would probably have given him problems too.

Still, I have no problems with Weise's game today at all.

His skills and speed are very overrated in my opinion. I loved his game today except for the goading of Thornton. Looked like the referee stepped between them and told them to knock it off, which is why Weise didn't accept Thornton's invitation, but you don't shake your gloves like that and then refuse to fight. He should have just turned around.

I like what I saw from weise today but I still wish we had someone who could beat the **** out of thornton or lucic and don't get me wrong about lucic I love the guy but when the games on it's all out the window for 60 minutes of hockey I think highly of thornton to some of us might not but the guy is a true team player

Jackman although not a great fighter, is good hitter and has some size as well. I would love him on the 4th line, ideal fit. Willing to fight but also very much a team player.

This is a Dale Weise thread, not a who-you-want-on-the-Canucks-4th-line thread.

I like Weise a lot. He's not the best fighter out there, and does lose focus sometimes, but he's got much better puck skills than most of the 4th liners we've had in the past, and with him and Lappy on our 4th, we won't have to worry about them being hemmed in our own zone every shift.

I love Weise and I think he solidified his place on the team today.

Just a question though - is there a tough player, able to take on heavy weights, who can still skate with some skill on the 4th line? Suggestions please. This is not a "who's available for trade question," I'd just like to know opinions.

Dale Weise pretty much confirmed why he will be on the 4th line come June.

Answer the bell.

No stupid penalties.

Almost drew a penalty (smart move to leer Thornton to drop)

Finish checks.

Initially I was pretty mad that Weise pulled that move against Thornton, especially after all the chirping from the safety of the penalty box, but on rewatching that period, he did have an extremely long fight not very long that incident. And he was shaking out his knuckles in the box after that one. Makes it a little more understandable he wouldn't want to jump up a weight class and fight Thornton after that.

I don't like the move Weise pulled but I think him and Lappy did their jobs this time around. They stuck up for teammates and drew attention to themselves which takes the attention off our stars. Somebody must have drawn them a map.

I agree Weise has done pretty much everything asked of him since being acquired. Still young too, and shown some skill so there may be a bit of upside there. Also agree, he'd be a nice bit of supplementary toughness to have in the line-up if we had some other guys who could handle that side of the game. Sort of feel sorry for him, as he's pretty much become this teams impromptu enforcer.

Wesie would be a perfect 4th liner to add some secondary toughness, unfortunately for him hes our toughest forward and basically is our enforcer. Weise might not be the best fighter but unlike Oreskovich hes not gonna stand there and watch his teammates get mugged and thats why he made the team instead of Oreo

According to Thorton the ref stepped in and told them not to drop the gloves until after the puck was dropped. It was Thorton's understanding that they were going to fight. Who knows what really happened.....

He also claims Burrows speared him in the face which kicked off the line brawl. Shawn Thornton is kind of a moron.

Beauty of a fight indeed and held his own against Horton. Solid. Credit to him for being willing to stick up for teammates. Lapierre too.

Actually Cherry should have been blasting Thornton! IT's part of the code you don't fight someone who's already fought in the game!!

there is a thin line that crosses sometimes with how he plays and for his actions he needs to be willing to answer the bell and a few times he has ducked out when he was going to be called on how he plays

Lord knows if I was "speared" in the throat...it would probably slow me down a bit.

His stick may have grazed the neck area, but if that was a spear you'd think it would be getting reviewed.

Sounds like Thornton was just looking to get the crowd riled up by going after a 1st liner....you know the 'code'.

You guys make me laugh.
