Habs and lack of swedish prospects

While all other Canadian teams often draft swedish players, Montreal probably hasnt had a good swedish player since Naslund. Does anyone know why?

Its possible that our scouting is weak for that region.

They havent drafted many players from scandinavia, let alone sweden. There hasn't been any notable Finnish talent graduate up the ranks since koivu either. They don't focus on this region much, it seems

I think alot of teams specialize in certain regions for their drafting. When I think of drafting/scouting swedes, I immediately think of Detroit. For montreal, I think of the US collegiate program.

It's been said but our swedish scouting is ****. We have one scout, Christer Rockstrom, for all of Sweden.

We also have one part-time scout for the entire Q, one scout for Russia, but I believe 6 full time scouts watching the USHL and USHS...

...god I hate our management sometimes...

edit: Scratch that, I just checked on Canadiens.nhl.com, and I don't even think we have a full time scout in Russia, or the Czech republic. It looks like all our Euro scouting is Christer Rockstrom, and one Finnish scout.

Engqvist, Westin, Torp, Heino-Lindberg... Nothing to write home about.

Is Naslund their scout over there ?

Maybe he wants to be the ONLY good Swedish player ever to have played with the Habs

Rockstrom is at least partially responsible for bringing both Lidstrom and Lundqvist to the NHL. Habs hired him last year. I'm all for bringing in more Swedes if the man can bring even one pick like that to Montreal.

I like our focus on Switzerland but the talent pools in Sweden and Finland are far larger.

Pathetic. On top of everything, I believe PG fired some scouts because video scouting was just as accurate as being there in person. A little cost-cutting I suppose. No worries, it's not like we're in 13th place in the east and seriously lacking an up-and-coming star or 2 in our system.
Europe schmeurope!

I thought we hired Pelle Eklund a while ago to our scouting staff. I just assume he lives in Sweden being Pelle Eklund and all... That could be done though since its a pretty vague memory.

We've drafted some but haven't had much luck with developing guys like Torp ... Enqvist.

I like the Swiss focus but we should have more of a presence in Sweden too.

Let's send Gomez to scout Sweden.

Not sure that's the right way to go !!
A lot of us here on the board would take on these jobs for free, just to see the team do well...lol

Actually, he was let go in the summer of 2010 after being with us for years.

Professional teams aren't interested by amateurs doing scouting "for free", for the simple reason that their input could lead to bad decision being made, and the integrity of their scouting process suffering at the same time. Many eyes doesn't automagically leads to better eyes.

We don't have many amateur scouts in Europe. We have Christer Rockstrom who we got from the Rangers who pretty much does all the scouting for us in Europe. Hannu Laine covers Finland.

They're primary focus should be northamerican players, particularly canadians, and why not draft some more quebecors, there is tons of talent in our country. we're the best. enough of these europeans. the boston bruins won the cup last year and are doing so well this year because of all the canadian content. heart and will wins games.

I hope this was ironic... Krejci, Chara, Lucic etc

We are the 2nd richest team in the NHL, we should have all regions very deeply scouted.

wow they should really restructure their scouting teams!

need at least 2-3 euro scouts to cover russia, scandanavia and rest of europe.

should have at least 1 scout for each of the following
WHL
OHL
QMJHL
USHL

i would gladly go scout for the habs anywhere they want me to go!
