Good news is that this falls over the all star break. From January 21-Feb 2 we only have 2 games. Looks like if all goes well he'll miss 9 games which is a lot, but it could have been a lot worse.

Coach Joel Quenneville said Monday at Johnny's IceHouse West that Sharp could have suffered the injury when he was slashed on his left wrist by Jiri Hudler when he fired in his 20th goal of the season at 4:19 in the first.

Tim Sassone on the twitter

Quenneville said "could be" when asked if Sharp hurt on Hudler slash, but more likely came from fall later in period

Q said it might have been right after the goal, but they aren't positive. He played a couple shifts after the injury.

I might get flamed but does anyone think losing one or two offensive guns might cause this team to focus more on a tight-checking defensive team game instead of HOPING we outscore the other guys..???

I hope so. I remember a stretch last year in which both Hossa and Kane were out and the Hawks still won games, one of them against Detroit. Now is the time for them to focus and get tight.

I'm guessing Seabrook gets the "A" in Sharp's absence.

Q said Hayes was going to get top six time:

Stalberg-Toews-Kane
Hayes-Frolik-Hossa
Bickell-Bolland-Shaw
Brunette-Mayers-Smith

Hayes in the top six good information, only better

Stalberg-Toews-Kane
Hayes-Frolik-Hossa

or?

Stalberg-Toews-Hayes
Frolik-Kane-Hossa

It appears to be dependent on the attitude of the Frolik in center?

No flame here; you've nailed it (at least what needs to happen). Time to play a team game and support each other rather than waiting for lightning in a bottle from 10/19/81/88.

Ben Smith, my brother from another mother (and father) called up to take Sharp's spot.

When is Kruger getting back we need him big time?

3rd and 4th line is AHL quality. Man this bites. Morin or Pirri need to get called up maybe after Carcillo is back. Shaw and Hayes have done the job so far.

I was listening to Jud on Blackhawks Radio 720 WGN the other night and a caller called in and asked should the Blackhawks go with Emery? Jud answered by asking a question what would that solve? We true it doesn't solve average defense. Jud was hinting that the Blackhawks primary problem is defense. I agree with Jud. We are far away from going on a Stanley Cup run with the amount of GA goals allowed this season.

Yet the caller raised a reasonable question.... I don't think Emery is any better than Crawfoed --but the Blackhawks clearly play better around Emery.

We need to ride Emery for as many games as we can if he gets on a 2-3 game win streak.

That looks quite brutal lol.

Frolik had good game on 2nd line last night + Smith has been brutal in his limited play in NHL this year (Horrendous actually)

Not sure how putting him at C on 3rd line with another rookie and Frolik will inspire much confidence

This stretch, right now, is going to define our season. This is what alot of people were fearing, when/if one of the big 4 goes down with an injury, how would this team cope? I'd be shocked if Chicago manages to go .500 for the length of time Sharp's out.

Stalberg - Toews - Smith
Hayes - Kane - Hossa
Bickell - Bolland - Frolik
Shaw - Mayers - Brunette

That's just nasty, in a bad way.

Why should Ben Smith who has been awful this year be on 1st line at call up?

Hayes-Toews-Kane
Shaw-Frolik-Hossa (Not pretty to have Frolik at C)
Bickell-Bolland-Smith
Stalberg-Mayers-Brunette

Then when Kruger comes back move Frolik back to W , Shaw to 3rd line and knock Bickell to 4th line with Brunette to press box

.

Smith has been crap with the hawks this year. Hayes and Shaw have both looked better

Why should Andrew Shaw, who's been riding shotgun on Pirri's line, be on the 1st line in his first stint in the NHL, when he has 4th line upside? These are the questions I ask myself, and I can't find an answer.

Andrew Shaw hasn't been good since the Philly game. He hasn't been physical, he's not good offensively and he's looked unsure of what he needs to do defensively.. he's playing nothing like he was advertised. If Shaw was on the 4th line, like Smith was for most of his stint, and played the way he's played the last two games, you wouldn't even know he was in the game.

It's pretty simple. Ben Smith has a higher offensive upside than Andrew Shaw. Therefore, Ben Smith (who had success there last year) should be in your top 6, not Andrew Shaw..

Why does Smith have higher offensive upside then Shaw?

To me they both have about same and that is as 3rd line NHL players

Smith shouldh't be given top 6 role on Hawks because he has been downright putrid in NHL this year while Shaw has been hustling ball of energy

look no further than that play in OT where he got the puck to bolland while falling on the ice. that's better than anything Smith has done all year with the hawks from my perspective.

A hustling ball of energy that hasn't been hittting, can't handle passes, can't make passes and has bobbled more pucks than he's gotten on net? Yeah.

If Shaw hadn't scored that goal, when Philly's defense was pre-occupied with Sharp/Toews behind the net, there'd be very little positive people could take away from Shaw's game.

Whether Smith's been good or not in the NHL this year is not the point. He hasn't gotten the chance, that he earned last year, to get a look in the top 6. Yet Shaw, who didn't start putting up points in the AHL until being put with Pirri plays with Sharp/Toews in his first NHL game.. it's a joke.

Slap Susan and call me silly, but this injury will be a turning point in the season. The Hawks will take this as an opportunity to concentrate on teamwork so that when Sharp returns he's a pleasant addition rather than a desperate need.
