Kevin Bieska an All Star?

There are rumors that Kevin Bieska might be named to the all star game, eg Greg Wy

Has Kevin finally silenced his critics?

how many guys are going? I assume both Sedins would be named ahead of Bieksa.

Kevin Bieksa - All Star....I never thought I'd live to see the day those words get put together.

I think either Edler or Bieska will get in.

Edler is number 4 in the league in defenseman scoring.

You'd have to think the Van D considerations would be (in order):

- Edler
- Salo
- Hamhuis
- Bieksa

But KB has been hot of late so who knows?

It'd be nice if Bieksa got to play in the All Star game in his home province! Hopefully we wouldn't have to send the Sedins or Edler so they can rest.

They should have an all-star game for fans. I bet i'd get picked.

By the way, Red Fisher who has covered the NHL for 50 years named Bieksa to his Olympic team for 2010.

Bieksa seems to be polarizing.

According to this, Bieksa didn't make it:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=611147

Kind of hilarious that they can't decide which of the Canucks d-men to take so they don't take any.

Bieksa's a hard-guy to judge unless you watch every game. If you took 5 random games there's a good chance Bieksa looks like an All-Star. There's also a good chance he looks like an AHL'er.

The one thing there's a 100% chance of is that I don't care about the All-Star game, so they can pick whoever they want.

Only chance that happens is if both Edler and Hamhuis decide not to go. He certainly has the point totals for it though.

Does Bieska get chosen over the reigning Selke trophy winner and the last two Art Ross winners?

I doubt it. And I don't think they're going to choose 4 Canucks for the all star game. So any Canucks defensemen going is pretty much out of the question, even though Edler certainly has the stats to warrant an appearance.

Big time. And on a pure hockey skill basis, so is Ballard. He just can't get it to actually work on the ice >< (neither can Juice IMO but that's a discussion for a different thread )

Actually, I think Bieksa's skill is underrated. It's easy to forget he already has two 40+ point seasons under his belt, including one in his sophomore season before succumbing to various freak injuries in the following years. Call me crazy, but if anything I consider Bieksa's 22 point season last year more of a mirage than this season in which he already has 25.

I'd be shocked if he went to the All Star game but I think he'd actually do really well and be something of a hit because he'd be playing in a situation where nothing is on the line and he has carte blanche to jump up in the rush and go on some of his adventures. Wouldn't be surprised in the least if he racked up a bunch of points if he actually took part in the All Star Game.

I have no idea why Kevin Bieksa isn't the most popular player on this team. He's skilled, tough, Canadian, a leader, a great personality and a playoff performer. The guy is a beauty in every way but fans continue to ignore all the great things he does and point to the one turnover or missed assignment he has rather than the ten other things he did well in the game. Completely mystifying to me.

Because he is turnover prone and also has lazy tendencies. Currently he's leading the team in giveaways.

Whether you agree with that label or not is up to you, but there is a feeling that when he plays poorly, it's often due to a lack of effort.

He has a LOT of lapses in the defensive zone, which is why he isn't THAT endearing to fans. Mainly as a result of seemingly lazy play.

Even though I don't think he's ASG material (though definitely better defensively that Phaneuf), I'd rather he not go. Guy's been playing huge minutes and needs a damn break after our first half.

Bieksa has warts like everyone else. For whatever reason, his are all people see while other guys are only seen for their strengths.

For example, Christian Ehrhoff put up 50pts last year playing on the first PP, only killing penalties as a last resort, playing sheltered minutes 5 on 5. His defensive short comings and sheltered minutes are completely overlooked, all anyone could see were the 50pts.

Bieksa is on pace for 45pts with little to no time on the first PP, he plays on the shutdown pair, is a key penalty killer, leader, way more physical and provides toughness yet all anyone can see are the turnovers. Ehrhoff turned the puck over too.

Doesn't make any ****ing sense to me.
