He can always listen to his dad, who's responsible for the way Ryan's been working out.

I do like Cal O'Reilly but of course he was never gonna succeed in the offensive wasteland of Dave Tippet and yeah he hasn't been as good since his Nsh spell a year ago+ but he's got the potential.
Yeah man. Tippett is just kryptonite to offensive production. Just ask Whitney, Vrbata, or Ribeiro or Morrow, for that matter.

Don't know.
You don't have to like it but when your younger brother made the NHL right after being drafted as a second round pick and plays such a mature game as Ryan O'Reilly does and right now gets his offensive game going as well, I think there is nothing wrong about listening to his advices

From what I know they work together in the off-season anyways so I don't think this would be that big of a problem.

This is sad to hear. Cal was decent for us at one point, then he broke his leg. Never the same since.

With that said, I like Brule. He can play anywhere in the line up. He also brings an effort every game. He doesn't always deliver but he appears to be working hard. Hopefully it works out with the Yotes because it was obvious that Oilers management was done with him. It was just a waste of talent having him here.
Yeah because Penner is such an all star..

Cal O'Reilly clears waivers.

Minnesota puts Colton Gillies on waivers and Detroit puts Chris Minard on waivers.

Gillies seems like a decent bet to get claimed. Only 22 (23 in February), good size (6'4") and pretty quick. Not much offence, but he was a first round pick in 2007 and is on a nice cheap contract ($625,00 cap hit). I wouldn't be surprised to see Edmonton take a flyer on him. Now that I've said all that, he'll probably clear.

For anyone who wants to know why the Wild were so bad, Gillies is a shining example. Risebrough traded a 1st and 3rd to move up a couple spots to grab who was projected as a high end 3rd liner...who busts and was barely an impact player in the AHL.

Gillies can't be any worse than Darche/Blunden on our 4th line can he? I'd take him in Montreal.

He has no head, no hands, no shot, no passing ability, makes terrible decisions, literally can't do anything at the NHL level other than skate in a straight line.

Every AHL'er we have called up (and we've called up at least 7 or 8) has outplayed him. He is only in the lineup because of his draft position.

My favorite memory of Gillies will be watching him live two days ago, when he tried to dump and change from about 10' behind the red line. Icing. He had time and space, and he decided to ice the puck.

He's got 2 points and 10 PIM in 37 games this year. Nobody is gonna claim him when they have to keep him in the NHL, he just doesn't do anything. He's gonna have to start fighting or something to have a real NHL career.

Pretty much. Terrible draft pick, Minnesota made a lot of them for a long while.

I wouldn't mind taking a chance on Gilles and see what he can do on the 4th line.

Man Montreal pick this guy up. I liked this guy from his junior days. Just liked his play and work. Its not just because of his size. He is still young, I don't know if it was just not a good fit in Minnesota.

Montreal could benefit from a guy like him. He can play center and wing. 6'4 to boot is exactly what Gauthier should be looking for if he was serious about getting bigger. We could use him in the future as a 3rd line center and move Eller into the 2nd line center in a year or 2.

I have proposed a trade a few times to get him, offering up Weber. Would even have been interested in Zanon to get him. He is a player who is young, has potential and has the size we could use for the bottom 6 to fill the middle if Eller moves up in the next year permanently. Help with a rebuild if we go forward with one.

As much **** as the Jackets get for their track record in the first round, the Wild are almost as bad

To be fair to Gillies, though, he was rushed into the lineup when he should have had way more seasoning in the AHL before being pushed into the lineup early because of his draft status.

Another interesting fact
2008-09: Played with Minnesota under coach Jacques Lemaire
2009-10: Played with Houston under coach Kevin Constantine
2010-11: Played with Houston under coach Mike Yeo and in Minnesota under coach Todd Richards
2011-12: Played with Minnesota under coach Mike Yeo.

After three seasons of junior with one coach, 2011-12 is the first season where Gillies has played with the same coach two years in a row! (Setting aside the 11 games he played at the end of 2007-08 in the AHL). It's got to be hard developing as a prospect when every year you have a different coach expecting different things of you. Even this year, with a level of consistency (Second year under Yeo), it's not really the same thing because it's playing under Yeo in the AHL and in the NHL where expectations are completely different.

Yeah, he might be terrible and a waste of a pick, but he also might be one of those players who just needs the right coach to emphasize what he needs to do and when to do it. Gillies, to this point, has had no consistency when it comes to coaching (4 coaches!) in his three and a half years as a pro.

I would love to see the Oilers to claim Gillies. He would help us during this injury spell we are having, and from I what I hear is he likes to play tough, and we NEED to play tougher to get better.
Please claim him Tambo!

FTFY

Of course the Wild were working with mid round picks (Pouliot and Sheppard aside) and not top 8 picks.
