Yip is awful. Terrible skater, no skill, and not quick enough to get in on the forecheck. He can do nothing other than shoot the puck.

That's perfect, we need someone who doesn't bother with that other crap and just shoots the puck.

He's not particularly good at that, though. Yip isn't good enough to be a go to guy on a line, but his skillset dictates that role for him.

Warren Peters will be our 1C tomorrow. Of our 12 forwards, 5 of them played all (or almost all) of last season in the AHL. We're not looking for a good player, we want a warm body.

We should claim Yip to boost the Asian fanbase here in Vancouver.

Yes, I'm Asian myself.

Can he hit the net? That would be an upgrade for Minnesota's offense.

I still loved it best, as a dutch person, when Roest( ie Rust) was playing on the Wings with Yzerman (ie Iron man)

Yip is a hard worker and he's very willing to forecheck and play defense, but watching him try to turn or stickhandle is pretty painful.

Not surprised on Yip. I think it's been expected this would happen to him for a while by many. He's not an NHL player.

McLean played overseas for the past few years before this season, so maybe since there's no chance he'll see the NHL this season, he doesn't want to stick it out in the AHL for the rest of the year. Overseas might be a better option for him at this point.

Yip is a hard worker, but really jst got outplayed. Not big enough, not good enough of a skater, and not good enough positionally. Can't PK, doesn't hit hard, and not gifted enough to play PP. Hes a decent finisher with a good wrister and a nose for the net if playing with the right linemates. Could turn out to be a decent tweener and produce some goals for a short period of time, but on a good team should play mostly 4th line minutes where he will be unexceptional.

No word on yesterday's waivers, but Calgary puts Brett Carson on waivers today and Florida puts Michal Repik on waivers.

And as soon as I posted that, Yip was claimed by Nashville.

Was kinda hoping the Isles would put a claim in on Yip, could use a hard working player for the third/forth line to maybe replace Rolston/Pandalfo. Repik I was for claiming previously, has his stock fallen that much or a change of scenery move?

I wonder if Montreal should maybe look at Carson.

Mobile dman at 6'4 and on a very decent contract. I think they will be re-structuring their lineup for next season.

I think Weber, Campoli, and Gill will all be gone at the deadline.

We will need some bodies for the blueline. Its just the timing. If we claimed him now one dman would kind of have to be moved right away which leads me to think no claim will be put in for him.

Would be nice going forward to have him as a #6-7 dman for next season.

Neither.

The Panthers simply don't have enough roster spots with all the players coming back from injury.

Whoever claims Repik is gonna be pretty happy if he keeps playing the way he's been playing lately. He's arguably been the Panthers best forward the last handful of games or so.

Um, no. Read the post above you. He's actually played really well this season. But we have 15 forwards when healthy, and our forwards are getting healthy. There's simply no room for Repik.

Wouldn't be surprised in the least if Carson got claimed by the Canes. They weren't too happy with losing him last season to waivers and while they have 8 dmen under contract Pitkanen's out and they've been looking to move Gleason and/or Allen.

The problem with Yip, and the reason he is not with the Avs, is that he is one of those top 2 line or bust players. He just does not have the motivation/ability/physicality to play a bottom two role. He can get away with being a bit of a floater on the top 2 lines as they are out there to score goals, not always to play D and work hard in the corners....but put him into a checking, defense first job, and he just can't make it happen. He was not fitting in with the Avs top 2 lines, so the Avs had to waive him.

He still may find his way as a top 2 line winger in the NHL, but I would not expect him to be a depth player.

Trust me, if he was any decent at playing a bottom 2 line role he would still be with the Avs.

Repik played his junior in Vancouver with Evander Kane and Spencer Machacek.

He can put up some points. This is exactly the kind of guy I'd like the Jets to take a flyer on.
