Lame Day Thread: 10 Jan 2012 The Wild Are ****ing Shark Bait - 6:30PM CT- Versus/TSN2

Why did I open my big mouth again? I hate making these things. I still have no idea what I'm doing. Sure I'm only 1-1, but damn, I really mailed it in on both of those didn't I?

Well let's try something different. How's a boatload of negativity sound? Sound good you say? Awesome. Lets get this train wreck rolling downhill with no brakes.

So lets see, where to start. How about the matchup? Yeah okay..

On the visiting side we have:

The Land Sharks of San Jose.

Sanny comes into the X tonight sporting a 23-11-4 record (50pts) in 38 games played, with a fearsome 8-1-1 last 10. They are currently on a 4 game winning streak with wins at Vancouver, at Anaheim, vs Columbus, and most recently a 5-2 beatdown against Washington. They're rolling folks. It's Shark night at the X, and were the main course!

I'm too lazy to photoshop a logo on to that chick. Use your imagination.

Sanny's Lines (Thanks slocal!):
Patrick Marleau - Joe Thornton - Joe Pavelski
Ryane Clowe - Logan Couture - Benn Ferriero
Jamie McGinn - Michal Handzus - Torrey Mitchell
Brad Winchester - Andrew Desjardins - Tommy Wingels

Dan Boyle - Marc-Edouard Vlasic
Jason Demers - Brent Burns
Douglas Murray - Justin Braun

(slocal didnt give me goalies, so two of Niemi, Greiss, Nittymaki, too lazy to look right now, I dont care!)

So, who do we have on the home side of this feeding frenzy?

Post it notes can fix ANYTHING!

Minnesota comes into this contest with a 21-15-6 record (48pts) in 42 games played. But the big story, and the reason I'm so cranky and ready to abandon ship is our 1-8-3 record in our past 12. We are a withered shell of our former self, and I for one think it is friggin pathetic.

I've gone from looking at this year like this on December 10:

To this after the Eddy Xmas Disaster:

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?

To this after our last "game":

Do I LOOK happy?

Suffice it to say I AM NOT HAPPY. How mad am I right now? When I am mad, I start to curse. When I am really mad I start dropping cluster F-Bombs. When I am beyond mad I STOP CURSING ALMOST COMPLETELY. Do you see any asterisks so far in this GDT, excluding the title? Go on, I'll wait while you reread. All done? Yeah, I'm that mad. Expect an epic rant sometime during or after the game if it goes how I think it will.

So why the hell are we in this mess? Well, we seem to have tripped over ourselves and we just plain cant get up. It looked like it was going to be another "Koivu is down, here comes a decent sized losing streak" just like last year, but it's far, far worse than that.

We can't shoot. We can't pass. We can't get the puck out of the zone. Our defense has gone to crap. Our offense has completely shut off. Our goaltending, once stellar and the envy of the league when Backs and Harding were a bona-fide tandem, is now average at best. The powerplay's got no juice. Players are trying to do too much. Players are afraid of screwing up and thus not doing enough. The players are "fragile" according to head coach Mike Yeo. Yes you read that right. Yeo called the guys "fragile".

This is a team that has completely lost all heart. A cadaver has a better chance of having a pulse than this team on a given night. Everyone has totally quit and Yeo has not been able to get the team to come back to life. In the last game there were maybe 10 minutes where the boys actually showed up, and at least half of it was after Cally had made it 3-0 and put the game out of reach.

You wait until NOW to actually start playing?

So who do we point the finger at? Well, I personally don't feel so much like "pointing" than "giving" the finger to the whole team at this point. There is plenty of blame to go around, from Koivu to Heatly to Cullen to Clutterbuck and all down the list. Everyone is to blame.

Except Seto. He looks like he's actually been playing lately.

Yay! Go me!

And I probably just jinxed him. Sorry Seto.

Aw man.

Sorry.

So what the hell do we look like tonight?

Well something like this I guess, stolen wholesale from the last Lame Day Thread
EDIT: Updated lines (thanks Fel):

Setoguchi - Koivu - Heatley

Wellman - Cullen - McIntyre

Johnson - Brodziak - Clutterbuck
Powe/Peters - Staubitz - Gillies

Schultz - Falk
Zidlicky - Zanon

Spurgeon - Stoner

Harding
Backstrom

Scandella got shipped down yesterday, and McIntyre comes up. No idea who the scratches are. I barely care at this point!

I might update the lines sometime between now and puck drop, but I might not. I'M LAZY.

Here's some good news: It's not a 9pm start. That's the only good news.

And just for the hell of it, here's some stuff that might help us get out of this:

Eat as many of these as you can for breakfast.

Because his avatar doesn't come back until tomorrow.

It's just crazy enough to work.

Annnnnnnnnd.....

Go.

Wait the Sharks are playing tonight? I'm going to the game. Sweet! I thought it was Edmonton or something lame like that. Yeah I don't pay much attention to these things.

Spongebob is funny, what are you talking about? There's a ton of adult humor in there if you look for it.

And it's so exploitable as image macros.

Never look a slump buster in the mouth!

Sorry about the goalies. It's really my best guess that Niemi will start since there's time off between games. Greiss seems to be used more on B2B's. Nitty has whinged a bit already for not feeling like he's close to getting a chance to play.

GL guys! Hopefully most of the crowd forgot or forgave Burnsie for his past uber-competitive comments.

People love when thought and effort are put into a GDT because it shows that the thread creator cares!

Funny pictures never hurt, either.

On a positive note, Cullen will play his 1000th NHL game tonight.

I will probably create a main board thread if there's none later.

He has a groin injury so we don't know how long he's out.

So, who wants to make some prediction(s)?

I will start...

Will the Wild get shutout once again or will they score a fluke goal at the end of the game?
