Ruutu played in the NHL POs - 1 Time

it's hard to say if he is good in the Playoffs or not.

How the **** do you KNOW this? He's been in the playoffs once!

Well the one time he did go to playoffs he was absolute ghost and got demoted to 3rd line

Not like it was just a few games to judge it was 3 rounds worth of play to judge

People used one career playoff round to justify and play up Frolik and his worth. Same with Ben Smith. You can't turn around and argue against doing the same with a guy to show his lack of playoff worth. It doesn't go both ways. And I'm not singling any people out here, just saying in general, you can't have it both ways. I'm not arguing for or against any of this, but did feel the need to point that out.

yeah, he wasn't great in his 1 PO year, but in a contract year, you think we will be better

and he always played good (or better) at the WCs

There's risk in just about everything in life. Gotta take a leap of faith and think he's turned the corner (which he has). Make the deal Stan!!!!

They use one playoff to tear down Ruutu. But used one playoff to determine Frolik was worth a 3 year deal. And started loving Bickell after that same series. Just saying....

I never mentioned how Ruutu performed in the playoffs. I just said that he is not the type of player that will suddenly "turn it on" in the playoffs.

I would add his international play doesn't bode well for him either

Like his NHL career he is either hot (07 and 08 WC) or downright dreadful (2010 Olympics and 06 WC)

I know it's not the NHL playoffs, but it was the his internation play with Finland that got everyone going about him being "the best player not in the NHL". The disappointment runs deep with Ruutu because he was the first legit prospect this team had in 10 years, but if you ignore all of that, he's a good player with a good resume. A small part of a teams success but nevertheless a positive one who brings attributes that the roster doesn't have in spades.

What did you think about Buff's run? Although the talent was there to do what he did, I never saw it coming as he was so inconsistent and unreliable in the regular season.

nobody knows if Ruutu would turn it on.
he is always good for Finland (outside 1 tourney) and only played POs once.
And BWC, you don't even watch the WC, how do you know if he was good or not?

Fair point on Buff, but we did know going in that he had a, shall we say, "special connection" with Luongo. Not every player needs to be a nose-to-the-grindstone playoff performer, but it is an area that the Hawks were strong in in 2010 and are weak in today.

My point is more that there are better options out there at forwards to suit the team's needs

Who might they be? This team needs some toughness up front that can play in the top 6. There aren't exactly a ton of guys out there that fit that description.

We're looking at one tonight if Minnesota keeps falling (Cullen). For that matter, Brodziak would also look nice on the 4th line.

+ most of the time the games are not evening for you guys, so it's more than possible that you are at work when these games take place.

In what way does Cullen help us more than Ruutu? Cullen is done, and I wouldn't take him over Pirri or Krüger. I'd rather try my luck with them and go after a hard hitting player that would give us secondary scoring

Cullen is garbage. Is this what 15 years of Hockey brings up about as a proposal? Come on man, you know better. Tuomo fits this team like a condom on ****.

It's that simple.

If you believe that Cullen is a better fit on this team than Ruutu, I have some land to sell you.
