Cullen would fit in well, but Ruutu addresses more needs. I'd trade for both.

Hayes-Toews-Kane
Ruutu-Cullen-Hossa
Bickell-Bolland-Stalberg

When Sharp comes back, trade Frolik for whatever

Sharp-Toews-Kane
Ruutu-Cullen-Hossa
Hayes-Bolland-Stalberg
Bickell/Smith-Kruger/Mayers-Shaw/Smith/Brunette

If Cullen came cheap enough, I'd love him as a solid third line center/mediocre top six option. Plus he gives us a point shot we badly need.

Tuomo Ruutu just doesn't bring enough to justify what it would cost to get him. People are saying that we can't judge how well he'll do in the playoffs based on one run, but then what do we judge him on? He has never shown that he will perform in the postseason and I would not want to trade valuable assets for nothing but the hope that he'll miraculously turn it on.

I could have said the same things about Patrick Kane, Johnny Toews, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Kris Versteeg, Dave Bolland before they ever had a chance to showcase themselves in the playoffs for their first times, but I didn't and took a chance, guessing they would step it up.

Of course, I was proved right.

All those players showed a lot more than Ruutu in their first playoff runs, and they were all younger when they did it. And they were all prospects the hawks developed, you have to hope they work out. Trades midseason are different, we don't have to trade for a guy who hasn't managed to prove himself by the time he is 28.
