What type of Citations do you use for Papers?

If you aren't given a certain styling to use for references for a paper, what style do you use?
I always get grief from teachers for using the Chicago style because not a lot of them know how to format and read it..

Depends on the class.
History I'll use Chicago.
English I'll use MLA

I was required to use Harvard-style referencing in both UK and the Czech Republic.

History major, so Chicago.

I hate formal writing though.

I don't understand why people can't agree on something so trivial, no wonder the world has so many problems

From undergrad to grad

I've never used anything else since HS

Whatever style the journal asks me to put them into. No one journal seems to be the same even if it's published by the same journal. It's not so bad, though, EndNote makes citations a piece of cake.

My favorite in-line style of citation, though, is the numeral superscript that JAMA uses. Sleek looking, for sure.

Try getting a studio to read a screenplay without being in a very specific format.

Every time I had a paper assigned in university, someone in the class would always ask how it should be cited. The answer was always "I don't care, as long as it's consistent and I can find the referenced work if I need to."
