I have no problem with this at all. At least he's getting paid for doing something and honestly, I really don't see how this can hurt the team. Yes, some of his coaching decisions were (extremely) questionable but you can't deny that he's a great hockey mind.

We love to keep guys around so if Gauthier is fired, maybe Gainey comes back in or Martin gets now promoted to GM while Gauthier goes back to scouting

We'll see how it works out. I don't really know much about his scouting experience, if any, but he does have a good hockey mind. Hopefully it pans out.

I'm pretty sure that Molson is the one responsable for these moves (Pearn and Martin). Honestly, he's the one spending money and I'm pretty sure he prefers to see these guys doing something for the team even if it's minor. There's no saga about it.

Relax everyone. They are paying him. Might as well use him. And if they don't agree with him, they could do whatever they want anyway. But Molson just want to feel like his money is just not thrown away.

Money move more than a hockey move. Besides, we are not talking about amateur scouting here are we? If it's pro scouting, it's not like something bad could happen from it, like going after a washed up vet in return for a good young rookie, this is just not our style.... If it's amateur scouting, again, it's just another voice amongst other voices.

Seriously, fine move. Can't bash Molson for not wanting to throw his money away. And I don't care if he stays around in that role either when all the firings will take place. Again, he's not IN CHARGE of anything. He's there to give his opinion. And he's been around for some time. Nothing wrong with that.

Pro or amateur scout? I'm guessing pro because his familiarity with the NHL players.

The overreaction of some people is just laughable. He's not being given the key to the city, he's just there to give his input on the scouting of prospects. It won't be "Jacques Martin's way or the highway". He'll be an asset when all the scouts get together in their monthly (I think it's either monthly or every 2 months) meeting.

In any case, this is most likely Molson and Gauthier making good use of the millions that are still owed to Martin on his coaching contract.

Good news for him.

He went to Hamilton last year to go see Pacioretty play and insisted on him being called up the next day. Pacioretty went on a tear in the NHL after that until the Chara incident so he knows when a kid is ready.

JM knows what he's doing. Pretty much everything you hear (he likes soft players, overplayed Darche and Pyatt etc) is fabricated BS.

Seeing how they were thinking about sending him to the WJHC, I would assume it's an amateur scout job.

Some people are making way too big a deal of this. Martin's going to watch a few games, draw up some reports and hand them off to Timmins. Timmins will do what he wants with that information.

FML, Just FML, I hated JM as a coach, as a GM just any form of JM should be gone from this team, this pathetic taking ppl you fire on as scouts is horrible.

I'm so disgusted.
We should get whoever discovered and developped Hossa, Havlat, Alfredson, etc.

He got him for nothing from Toronto as a salary dump, they got him and a 4th for Van Ryn. McCabe played 199 games in Florida 28-76-104 -2. Then he was traded to NYR for Kennedy and a 3rd. Worked out pretty good.

No he isnt. Look what he was doing to Eller. Look at what he was doing to Emelin. And look how he embraced Weber.

The man is enamored with soft players without grit. I am sure that he will continue to eye the weak and call them great.

Gauthier is a ****ing joke as a GM.

Not a fan of his coaching style, but I'm okay with this.

Yeah, it is disgusting. It's disgusting that there is such a void of leadership in Montreal that the GM is worried about the optics of a scouting assignment rather than effectively deploying resources and doing the best job possible.

PG is a useless twit.

Good for him.

I'm glad he's not our coach anymore since I thought his style was outdated and didn't fit with this team. I am however completely disgusted to see so many people seem to hate him as a person. Scouts don't even make any decisions and teams have a lot of them, why complain? Keeping him around is a classy move by the org.

But when RC benches Eller and Emelin those are good moves right?

Why?

Would you rather see JM a broken down man or something?

Ridiculous.

As others have expressed... the man knows hockey.

Not a big fan of Gauthier but I find it funny how you bring up Eller and Emelin then go on to bash Gauthier who was the guy who brought in both those players, also like overlords said Gauthier probably had nothing to do with this move lol

Well at least you get him to do something while he is on the pay roll. Bottom line he might be a scout but he does not get to pull the trigger on descisions.
