I wouldn't mind trading Zanon for a pick. A 3rd or a 4th would be perfect IMO.

So, which teams might be interested in Zanon?

Rangers.

Eminger out for 8-10 weeks. Sauer/Staal out with concussions. Woywitka is banged up.

I'd give up a 3rd, easily.

Nashville maybe? I think he'd be a lot better then Hillen and Boullion, Preds need a defender and Zanon used to play here.

Zanon is a UFA, drawing nearly 2 million against the cap this year. No reason for teams that are down on their luck (Anaheim) to bother trading for this guy. He could go to a team earlier due to the injuries that are piling up around the league, but if not he will certainly be a bargain bin deadline day steal. This guy blocks shots and is very serviceable depth d-man. When it comes to the Playoffs he is the type that will take a puck to the teeth and keep trucking, every team needs guys like that.

I'd take a 3rd for Zanon any day. He tries hard enough, but he can't hold the blue line.

Vancouver fans will likely be willing to give up a 3rd. Would be a solid bottom pairing guy for us with Ballard.

He'd be a good fit on Philly. He won't replace everything Pronger brings to the game but he'd still be a decent add for them.

Flyers definitely, especially since he's a UFA at the end of the season

Zanon should draw a lot of interest. He's a UFA in the summer, his cap hit is low, and he's a solid bottom-pairing guy. While generating little to no offense, he's your typical defensive defenseman capable of blocking lots of shots. A lot of teams will be looking for a player like him, injuries or not.

I would love to have him on the Penguins. Not only would be fill a short term gap with Letang, Martin, and Michalek...and Lovejoy I guess being out but he would make a great #5 come playoff time.

Not sure what they would want back...mid draft pick? 4th? One of our mid level prospects?

Yes and no. We knew coming into the season that we probably wanted to move him around the deadline. Then at the start of the year we lost defensemen like flies. It was so bad, we actually had to sign a player who was on an AHL contract in Houston so we could call him up and actually ice 6 bodies.

Now that our defense is healthy again, we have too many guys for our blue line so we've needed to make a roster defenseman a healthy scratch. With Zanon being an impending UFA, and not really fitting that well into our future plans, he's back to being trade bait.

Fel's asking for 3rd/4th round pick, but I think he's solidly in 3rd round pick range. The Wild would really like to be moving into the second round though, but Zanon alone isn't worth that.

I don't know that we'd want a body coming back, although we could take one. An offensively inclined d-prospect with a good chance of being a 3-4 guy might work.

It's Greg Zanon, they aren't going to get much of an impact player for him.

If Zanon is healthy and truly available I find it very hard to believe that Nashville hasnt traded for him already. He knows our system and we could desperately use someone reliable in our 2nd or 3rd pair and on PK duty.

So Im thinking he either isnt truly on the block yet(and I cant blame the Wild since he's good depth in case of injury) or else the asking price is too high right now.

We're not looking for players, we're looking for picks or (in a very very limited fashion) prospects. In the proposed deal, Christensen has zero or negative value to the Wild. The pick might be worth more alone.

I'd go with the latter. He's great for us to have, and his value shouldn't really decline between now and the trade deadline. I think that Fletcher is likely just holding on to him until either the right offer becomes available, or he starts butting up against the trade deadline. He's certainly available, but like with Bobby Ryan earlier in the season, we don't have to trade him, so we can afford to sit tight if we think we can get more than what's offered.

yep , perfect fit, UFA Dman that can block shots.........If the Wild want a pick it will be a 3rd at the most.....if they want a Forward back Erik Christensen can be added as the Rangers currently have 13 F

any interest in Avery?

assuming you guys remain in the playoffs do you think he'd be traded at the deadline if all youre getting back is a pick? I would think that kind of depth would be too valuable in case of injury.

the more I think about it, barring a collapse, Id think it would take a pretty sweet offer to get Zanon from you...

Assuming we don't see a long term injury to our defense right now, this is what we're sitting at:

Scandella-Spurgeon
Schultz-Lundin
Stoner-Zidlicky
Zanon
Falk

In Houston we have Prosser and Fredheim who have had games with the big club and performed at least "good enough" in a 5-6 defenseman role. It seems we have 8 NHLers and at least two AHLers who can fill in for any short term injuries. We shouldn't be clutching at Zanon too greedily, especially since this franchise is firmly rooted in the future, and any shot at the playoffs this year is just gravy for us.
