LOL!

The sad part is, we sort of do that already. We (try) to rush into their zone, fail, the puck gets cleared out, we regroup and try it again.

we should just take a penalty right off the draw so we have 1:59 of 4 on 4 instead of PP. Better chance to score that way.

I would suggest inserting before this the following:

Jonny wins initial draw>20-30 seconds of possession>lame backdoor attempt fails>puck cleared down ice

Did I miss the PP suddenly magically becoming unsucking? Was it a mirage that they getting hemmed in the defensive zone with Keith/Seabrook/Toews on ice?

Surprising.

Hawks win 5-2, Leddy finishes -2

I don't dislike Leddy, its just that he's had an alarming trend of poor play recently (-9 over his last four games)

Yea. he seems to be on the ice for every goal against lately. His inability to clean up rebounds and also poor play around our net has kinda stuck out.

It also seems like the vast majority of the goals crawford allows are on 2nd and 3rd chance opportunities. If we can start cleaning up the rebounds better, I think crawford will look a whole lot better.

If Crawford stopped giving up so many rebounds, maybe Crawford would start looking better.

He's pretty much always played like this, niemi wasn't much different. The real difference is that our defense isn't nearly as good at clearing them as it was in the past. Anyone else remember the countless posts "god niemi's rebound control is horrible"?

/\ That's what I disliked most about Niemi's game .... and his inconsistency of course.

However, it seems to me that last years CC wasn't letting out nearly as many rebounds as we are seeing from him now.

Agreed 100%.

I don't know how many rebounds I saw last night, but it was way too many.

Can't expect the defense to clear the front and clear pucks constantly.
Leddy has been pathetic at both, and it's compounding the problem.

yea maybe not, but I could swear I remember people commenting on crawford's rebounds last year too. I also think a lot of the time, all the traffic in front causes some of these rebounds since he may not be seeing the puck real well and all he can do is get something on it to stop it.

The rebounds aren't good, but it's a much bigger issue because he's kicking them out into the slot and he's having trouble with bad angle/weak wrist shots that should be soaked up.

When he's not kicking it into the slot, it just sits in front of him which is a problem when our D men can't clear the front of the net.

I think it's our biggest reason for being bad on the PK and as a whole defensively.

CC gives up too many rebounds and sucks at controlling them. Niemi can keep the shots and holds to them. When he gives up a rebound, which doesn't happen as much as it happens with CC in net, he isn't good at controlling - but he got better now.

Our DMen can clear the zone. But it's easier to clear 5 pucks in one period than 10 per period.

Did you guys like the Jamal Mayers bum rush? I just don't get that. Why do guys feel the need to play hero in such an unnecessary way? Boll wasn't taking runs he was making what was actually a pretty boring and mundane check.

Sorry to come in and talk crap cuz I know lots of guys do it on a lot of different teams. But do you agree it's dumb?

It's like the embarrassingly misplaced "I got back bro," when no assistance was required, to me.

I did like what Mayers did. I didn't like what Montador did. The difference between the two plays was that Boll's hands and arms were up at the face level of whoever he checked when Mayers came flying in. Montador... still no clue what he was doing.

Good point. That is definitely a factor as Crawford is constantly fighting to see the puck through the opps and our dmen standing in front of him. Often the shots that do get through, he doesn't see until they hit him. Lot's of deflections as well.
After the last game, Q was asked point blank about taking the man from in front of our net. His reply "take the man or the puck". This confirms to me that it is the Hawks "system" that needs some serious tweaking. With few exceptions, they all play the puck.

I did like that he stepped up for his teammate. This was the 2nd time Boll tried to run at our players. This time it wasn't all that clean like the 1st (Montys fight).
