Someone asks for Voynov and 1st and you repsond with Bernier, Johnson, and a 1st instead?
What the hell?

Yeah, good question. I was a little messed up from Theraflu last night, and I figured the Devils would want something like that over Voynov and a 1st, unless they are desperate to trade him.
First of all, if Parise is to be traded then it would mean the Devils are not intending on competing this season. So any takers would probably need to take back Salvador for cap reasons/New Jersey approaching 50 contracts.
If Parise were to be traded (which he won't be) I would expect a package like this:
Established top 6 NHL forward/Established top 4 NHL defenseman (signed, not rentals)
Close to NHL ready top forward prospect with safe top 6 potential/Close to NHL ready top defensive prospect with safe top 4 potential
Early Round Pick 2012
Some sample packages I would consider (not endorsing any of these proposals, just giving a few hypothetical examples):
Jordan Leopold + Zach Kassian + 1st 2012
Johan Franzen + Brandon Smith + 2nd 2012
Nicklas Hjalmarsson + Marcus Kruger + 1st 2012
Dennis Seidenberg + Jared Knight + 1st 2012
Dmitri Kulikov + Nick Bjugstad + 1st 2012
David Jones + Stefan Elliot + 1st 2012 + Conditional 2nd (if Jones doesn't re-sign)
That's the general kind of package New Jersey is looking for. Roster players + top prospects that can contribute within a year. Don't expect a quality for quantity deal where New Jersey gets four mediocre assets back.
Detroit isnt going to trade Franzen in any deadline deal for a rental player. Having said that, Parise is a player that Detroit would definitely like and the type of move they need to make. I think they'd part with Smith and a 1st along with one of their top forward prospects. Now obviously they wouldnt make the deal unless they were pretty confident on re-signing him.

After hearing that proposal I wouldn't be surprised if Tallon just blocked NJ from contacting him. No one will give up that much for an impending UFA.

Detroit will not part with Smith unless they are positive they are going to re-sign Parise, Lidstrom is going to retire and they can get Suter/Weber and another top 2-pair defenseman. He is their best prospect.
I would propose that,
Devils get - Hudler (for Parise's cap hit), Ericsson/Kindl, Tatar/Jurco, 1st (2012/2013)
Wings get Parise, Foster
Obviously the Wings will have to give to get, the Devils will get a good PP and streaky player in Hudler. (Possible 50-60 points with Kovy). Good defenseman and a top prospect in the Wings system.

Thoughts?
As I stated, if they feel confident they can sign him, they'd move Smith. Your proposal isnt bad at all except you cant add Hudler to any deal but a deal starting with Ericsson, Jurco and a #1 would be a pretty good offer.

Again, I wasn't suggesting either of those teams would/should do those deals. Just that those are the types of packages/players New Jersey is looking for.

value wise NJ fans, how is it? not if he will be traded, I suspect he won't but hypothetically...
if thats all it would take to get parise then im pretty sure burke would offer up something similar - macarthur, gardiner, 1st. if anything i think its a better package. mac >= hornqvist, gardiner > ellis and torontos 1st > nashvilles (most likely )
Cost to pry a player who wants out of a go-nowhere non-playoff team is not the same as the cost to get a player from a thick-of-the-playoff-battle team. Atlanta had no options: it was miss the playoffs and get nothing for him, or miss the playoffs and get something for him.
With NJ, impact on the team's likelihood of making the playoffs will affect their return demands.
