OT MLB commish Selig to be offered extension

http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=384692

At the upcoming meetings this week. Selig, 78, keeps telling folks he plans on retiring in December (2012), but folks don't believe him. (He could set a new term for longevity in September 2016.)

If he really is planning to retire, it could be an interesting time with new commish at the helm of MLB.

There are a lot of Selig bashers, but he has been a pretty decent commissioner. I'd say he is the best current commissioner of the big 4, though Roger Goodell could surpass him with more time. We need more Bud Seligs and less David Sterns.

I think Bettman is a clear cut above the others. Selig's only claim to success is labor peace and he achieved that by bending over to the players union at every turn. Bettman showed a lot of balls in 2004 and it worked as the league is more profitable. Goodell has actually managed to hurt the NFL somewhat. I rank him below Bettman for the sole reason that he has done a noticeably worse job than his predecessor did. Stern on the other hand is a straight up fool who has no business running a professional sports league.
