Going to a game to see a specific player

John Tortorella appears to be considering whether or not to ask Wojtek Wolski and Erik Christensen to do conditioning stints in the AHL. (Link) It got me to thinking, do you go to games if you know a specific player is going to be in town? Who was the player?

I have. Kari Lehtonen came back on a couple conditioning stints, and I made it a point to get to the game. It was a week day game that I usually don't get tickets to, but I wanted to see Kari back in the Wolves jersey, Can't really say that I have made it to game to watch an opponent, but I think if I knew about it in advance, I probably would.

When Eric Fehr and Tomas Fleischman returned to Hershey on conditioning stints I was there to watch them. Thats the only time I can think of. If I knew certain players would be in Hershey then yes I would probably find a way to get to the game

Cant say I have though when Chris Chelios played for the Motor City Mechanics I did see him play. Gretzky's little bro was also on that team for fun info purposes.

I would routinely travel to various AHL cities to see Pelts and David LeNeveu. Hell, I traveled to Mannheim, Germany to see Pelts.

Zach Hamill when Providence came to Abbotsford. My dad and his friend were the manager and coach respectively of his Bantam AAA team. As a Bruins fan, I decided to tag along. Dull game, Brad Marchand was the only noticable player out there.

Not really, since I have season tickets I'll go anyhow. Although somehow I missed Phil Kessel's conditioning stint in Providence. I do remember going to see Jim Carey's first game after he got sent down from Boston in '97, but he got lit up.

When the Moose were in Winnipeg I went to see particular players. When an Eastern team came into town I almost always went (just missed Manchester of the Eastern teams that came here). I went to a Peoria game a couple of seasons ago to see Eller but he was called up earlier in the day and wasn't playing, haha. Disappointing there.

Not personally because I'd be there regardless but in the past I've met a lot of people who came to games to see Kyle Mclaren or Jonathan Cheechoo.

If I only went to some games I would. Like I had season tickets for quite a few years in Providence. I actually missed the games when Kessel played down there. I want to say he played on the road one game and went back to Boston after.
But now I only have 5 games a year so if I knew someone decent was coming down I'd check it out.
Another reason would be to try and get autographs off them after the game. I'm big into collecting that stuff. And to get a guy at the NHL level isn't always easy these days.
