erskine might be struggling with the shoulder. might be he cant play and the team doesnt want schultz to play and thus we see TK. might be that erskine is as slow and illsuited for man coverage as schultz.

yes erskine is a 6/7 and makes less check, but i dont think he is any happier about giving up games to rookies with no nhl experience as a healthy scratch as schultz might be.

Vokoun starting tonight. Interesting.

Stephen Whyno
Hamrlik says it looks like he's playing with Kundratek. #Caps

Can we get a decent goaltending effort for once?

Pairing makes more sense at least to start: vet/rookie, lefty/righty, don't have two players jumping in the play on the same pairing; plus Czech language familiarity for on-ice communication in NHL game 1 for Kundratek.

#Caps call-up Tomas Kundratek said he's playing with Roman Hamrlik. Kundratek also said fellow Czech Neuvirth has been showing him around.

Orlov Kundratek pairing .... on paper that's scary seeing the two paired together.

Of note, Orlov and Kundratek only played in the same Hershey game once this season on 11/13 vs Bridgeport.

I was thinking maybe they'd pair Kundratek with Hamrlik for the vet/rookie pairing plus the Czech aspect.

Kundratek is Czech so should help in terms of goalie/dman communications, one would hope.
Orlov Kundratek. Had to do a double take, at first it looked almost like Orland Kurtenbach.

Kundratek and Neuvirth played on the Czech U20 WJC team in '08, hosted in the Cz. Rep.

Whyno's reports are so annoying.

Its always like this:

Tweet: Here is my report on Backstrom being IR'd

You click the link and all it will say is:

"Backstrom IR'd"

What I didn't like about him is that when we played the Flyers, Whyno had more freaking tweets to articles about the Flyers than the Caps.

I hope that Kundratek is not paired with Orlov and is paired with Hammer tonight. Kundy has been paired with an offensive minded defensemen in Hershey the past couple of weeks and the pairing has been pretty bad since at times they both would be deep in the offensive zone

Hammer verified that Kundy would be paired with him.

Ok thank you. I'm excited to see how he plays. He has been one of my favorite players this year in Hershey

Caps have a 13 game losing streak(0-12-1) when OV doesn't register a point. It'll be at 14 after tonight.

Still don't understand the Kundratek call up tbh.

I agree with tx's point. Green's hurt, Schultz and Erskine both are slow. They want someone faster that can play man better.

His reports usually just contain information. Much better than Katie's and Tarik's. Katie tries to dress her writing up (cue txpd talking about the editors) but just isn't capable of writing above an 8th grade-level. I'm sure Whyno is a fairly mediocre writer too, but he keeps his posts as just their actual substance/information. Tarik is unduly pretentious. Much better than Katie, but also writes much less often.

the problem with that is that the caps defense is now alzner-23, carlson-22(yesterday), orlov-20, and TK-22 plus wideman and hamrlik. thats scary. at least one of them on the ice at all times. and the penguins coming, limping or not.

In the past, wide open days, this type of game would be a blowout.

Tonight? They probably get thumped.

Hey, at least I won't have to watch Laich struggle to do anything on that top line.

Interested to see how Ovi-MJ-Semin work together.
