You think this trade would help?

T.Ruutu ($4.75)
for
McQuaid ($1.567) and Kelly ($3mill)

We could include a prospect/pick as well.

3rd line - Ruutu - Yeti - Eriksson

I've always wanted Tuomo Ruutu on this team; but I think his figure going forward would be tough to swallow. I think we are going to have to move both McQuaid and Kelly in the off-season for cap space; so much as I'd like this move, I don't know if we could afford it.

Weren't we kicking the tires on David Schlemko from Phoenix a few years back??? I don't really know much about him or if he's even available, but for some reason I remember his name popping up...

Well salary wise its a dead wash...both are signed to the same term.

It's just do you prefer the cap space to bring in someone younger the following year or stick with the vets.

I personally think we are lacking someone of his calibre on our team.

Not interested on Ruutu. We need a true top 4 dman and I think only Girardi is that kind of guy available.

I know Haggs mentioned Mark Giordano a little bit last night, and that is a guy I would really like.
He still has 2 years left on his deal about 4 Mil I believe. He would definitely add to the top 2-3 right now.
I am thinking the price would be similar to what the Rangers want for Giardi but he is UFA, Philips and Talinder do not excite me.
Not sure if Calgary would even move him but would a package of Koko, Bartkowski, Svedberg or Subban make them think about it??

If Chiarelli can get a defensive defenseman to replace Seidenberg without over paying I'd be all for it.

But as Gee Wally said in another thread there are a lot of teams in contention for a playoff spot this year so chances are a deal would cost more than usual. I don't want the Bruins paying through the nose for a 20 game rental. I'd rather take our chances with the D we have now and if that doesn't work so be it. Seids will be back in September.

Throwaway thought for me: Any chance PC would consider rebuilding the 4th line for the playoffs?

It just occurred to me that this line isn't much of a strength anymore. In particular, Campbell and Thornton just don't do much, and they're struggling to get out of their zone. Any chance PC decides to chase a 4th line center in hopes of making this a greater strength for this team? I mean I feel like even CJ is using them less.

I suppose another option for doing this is getting a 3rd line winger to replace Kelly and slotting Kelly in for Campbell. It'd be an upgrade.

To me, last night just further cemented the notion that we need another top 4 dman for the playoffs.

I know that it was the game after the Olympic break and Johnson stunk, but Buffalo is a bad bad hockey team and to give up 5 goals to them should never happen.

The way I see our d core:
#1 Chara
#2
#3 Boychuk
#4
#5 Bart/Dougie
#6 Krug/Mcquaid
#7 Miller

I can live with one of Bart or Dougie being in the top 4, but in my opinion, there is no way we can expect to win in the playoffs with both of them being in a top 4 role.

If we acquire a left handed dman, Dougie is in the top 4.

If we acquire a right handed dman, Bart is in the top 4.

To me, ideally we acquire a left handed dman and have a top 4 of:

Chara - Boychuk
XXXXX - Dougie

I'm not sure how they would make it work as that would push Bart out because Krug and Mcquaid is the likely bottom pairing.

Maybe we acquire a RH shot and leave Bart in the top 4 and have a bottom pairing of Krug and Hamilton? Not sure I like that, but could be a possibility.

He has been mentioned before, and I think if it is at all possible, the Brunis should go after Giordano. It's obvious they have interest in Bart and Koko as that was the deal last year. If we were to get a guy like Gio I would not hesitate to give up those two with Caron (to clear some salary) and a conditional 2nd round pick. Maybe even make it a little bigger and add Stempniak to the package.

Who knows what will happen, but we will have all the answers in less than a week!

If they could swing it Id love the bruins to pick up Girardi and Callahan. They are exactly the blue collar hard workers that Julien loves.

Don't want Callahan at all. Not worth it.

Girardi would be my #1 choice on D, but I don't know if he's available or how much he'll cost. It looks like they'll move Callahan, which I imagine will free up the cap room for Girardi

I agree, I like Ruutu. I'd love to add him into the mix.

I just think they are going to have to move Kelly and McQuaid to open up cap space for next year's bonus cushion issues. So having Ruutu in there at the same cost just creates one hole and less money to fill it. I don't completely understand the cap though, so I could be way off base!!

Id take Kreider off thier hands, but I dont think they will move him. They do need centers though so Spooner may be something they want.

Too bad Haggs mentioned Giordano, means there is no shot of it happening.

Makes sense in a way, best chip Calgary has to add depth but I don't think Burke makes that deal unless a top 9 forward or Hamilton or Krug is involved. Like all teams we overrate our prospects (some more than others) but I doubt Spooner, Bartkowski, Subban et al would get a deal done for a legit top flight defenseman. Maybe if we include Knight

lol no wonder NHL doesn't want to go to the Olympics again. Players getting physically hurt and then some getting their feeling hurt and demanding trades. WTF MSL!? You want to go to NY to win a cup or hang out with your buddy Brad Richards? Or do they have some nice Zoos over there?

All this drama has to be good for Chia. Depth moves will be overshadowed by this. Forget MSL, Callahan, Girardi, Vanek, & Kesler. Concentrate on Meszaros or Phillips.

The obvious is always the least obvious for Chiarelli. My gut says he trades for more center depth lol

My list ( in no order ) of guys who are rumored to be available that I'd like to see the Bruins pursue

1. Ryan Kesler
2. Ryan Callahan
3. Dan Girardi
4. Andrej Meszaros

Bergeron, Kesler, and Callahan on the same team would be an intangible head explosion

I think they could get Kesler and still get a D, I hope the Sedins liked playing Eriksson

Why would we need Kesler, we already have a ton of Centers..

I guess unless Kelly or Campbell is part of the deal.

Because he can play right wing. Marchand-Bergeron-Kesler is just a great line

I'm not paying 10 million dollars for 2 years of Kesler on the 3rd line. I know that we all love the guy because he cries after losing a big game, but seriously- there are more important areas of concern.
