Sabres practice to be streamed live on Thursday, 1/12

Quote:
The Buffalo Sabres today announced the teamís practice tomorrow -- Thursday, January 12 -- will be streamed live on www.sabres.com beginning at 11:45 a.m.

Sabres broadcasters Kevin Sylvester and Rob Ray will serve as hosts of the online broadcast and will provide viewers with commentary about the various drills happening throughout the session. Fans who tune in will also be able to hear live audio from head coach Lindy Ruff, who will be wearing a microphone for the duration of practice.

The live stream of practice, which is a first for the Sabres, will last approximately half an hour.

Should I waste my time? Will it be a half hour of staged nonsense?

Even if it's a dog and pony show, I'll watch. Can't be any worse than the games!

Am I the only one that thinks that this is a little strange? Like now of all times to do this? I dunno, maybe I am looking too much into this...

Maybe this is being done for TWO reasons:

1) To show fans that the team works really, really hard in practice...so when you witness epic gamesuck on Friday, you feel bad for them, since they worked so hard in practice for this one.

2) So Lindy Ruff can show how hard he works them...and it's not HIS fault when epic gamesuck overcomes the team on game day.

It would be a time to watch the Sabres with zero possibility of them blowing a lead or not standing up for one another... Novel.

Looking forward to 20 posts from people who've never watched an NHL practice saying how bad Ruff sucks at it, and that he should be fired.

I'm kind of with you, maybe for a different reason. I bet after the last 10 months, a lot of the players crave normalcy right now. It seems like there's been almost constant hoopla surrounding this franchise since then.

The players have to deliver season tickets, they get followed by cameras in Europe, fans are hanging out by the lockerroom now, now their practices are streamed.

My remaining hope for this season is that the team takes off when it gets on the road for good long while. Get the hell out of Dodge.

.....and maybe even see a goal or two scored in that 60-90 minute practice. Maybe.

Me too. I never got to watch a practice live when I lived in WNY, and now that I don't, this is the only feasible way I'd get to see one. So even if they're stinking up the effin' center every night, it's a bit of fan service for me.

With the success of the 24/7 series, this isn't surprising.

It clearly wasn't a problem in the Europe trip since they won those games.

As to the other stuff? The Rangers have fans right by the locker room, and they're doing ok. Half the league does personal delivery of season tickets. (If anything, the Sabres were late to that party; the Leafs have been doing it for a bit now.) ONE practice is being streamed, and to be honest I bet most of the players don't even know about it.

So as someone who has never watched a NHL Practice before what are the significance of the different colored jerseys?

I gather red probably means no contact. But I'm at a loss for everything else.

Usually, each forward line has their own color and the defensemen wear another color.

This is my position, though I'd like to see more done with it. Get me inside that locker room, or show me life as a Sabre. Would be really interesting.

These guys are NHL hockey players, not really a "normal" life to it on the ice. If the issue of coverage is bothering them, that seems counter-intuitive to broadcasting your hardened success/failure multiple nights a week for seven months.

Also, I have a feeling this is a response to MSG/TWC debacle.

This would be better if Ray and Sylvester would shut up while Lindy is coaching.

He's explaining what's going on. Lindy isn't saying much but "Let's Go!" and some other random things.
